Melody, harmony and poetry of Art Song July 6 th to 12 th 2015 In Melody, harmony and poetry of Art Song we will work with a maximum of 8 singers and 4 pianists towards two separate Lied recitals in gorgeous local venues. Participants are advised to work on their own Lied repertoire in addition to songs and song cycles chosen by the organisation after having heard their application recordings. An extra possibility for singers is working on and performing the Catalonia Chamber Philharmonic International Conducting Course's orchestral Lied repertoire ( final repertoire still to be determined also depending on the available singers.) Singers and pianists will be offered an opportunity to delve into the details of the human psyche through the medium of melody, harmony and poetry. This week of intense work on known and unknown repertoire will allow both the individual singer and pianist to become more complete performers and at the same time learn how to merge two egos into one musical unit. In this course for individual performers as well as exsisting Lied duos, you will be working with leading experts in the fields of singing, playing, stage presence, repertoire choice and various languages. Also you are very welcome to participate in the opera course Flamenco classes! NB It is possible to combine both the one week Art song course with the two week opera course for a special fee! Exsisting Lied duos can apply for a duo fee. We also have an offer for staying the second week in order to enjoy Barcelona and come and see the opera performances. Extra lessons during that week can be ordered beforehand and payed separately.
Catalonia Chamber Philharmonic International Conducting Course July 6 th to 19 th 2015 The main subject of the course will be the rehearsals for Bizet's Carmen. Maestro Diego Martin Etxebarria will be the music director of the production and the students will serve as assistants conducting the stage rehearsals, working with the singers and with the orchestra.parallel to this activity, conducting students will prepare their own concert based on the chamber versions of Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden gesellen, 1st and 4th Symphonies, Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, Strauss' Kaiserwalzer (final repertoire still to be confirmed). Apart from the common subjects such us conducting technique, analysis, rehearsal techniques, there will be two meetings between the students and the concertmaster of the Catalonia Chamber Philharmonic, Raúl García. It is essential for a conductor to know the technical possibilities of all the instruments but no doubt the section of the orchestra with more specific characteristics concerning the conductor's job are the strings. Of course, facing the professional world, a good first violin will facilitate much of this work but even though, a conductor must always be aware of what he wants and how to achieve it. This means you should be able to put the bows when asked to do it.raul Garcia, will play in all the orchestra sessions and will also teach the students how to achieve what they musically want from the strings, discuss every proposal, offer examples and tips for the pieces in question as well as for other cases that they will frequently find in their professional life. Active participants: The course is open to aspiring orchestral conductors and to advanced orchestral conductors, offering the most important thing in a conducting course, the opportunity to work with a real professional orchestra. Therefore we want to give the students enough podium time (at least 80 min in whole) so that at the end they can notice the progress they have done. Unfortunately that's just possible with a small group of no more than 8 fellows. Auditors: If you are a music lover or a novice conductor and you don t feel prepared yet to conduct a professional orchestra it will also be enriching to attend the course as an auditor. Assist to all lessons as conducting technique (where you can also take part actively), analysis, strings technique (with our Concertmaster Raúl García) and, of course, to observe how the others work with the orchestra. After a week you will know for sure the whole repertoire by heart! Audience: Even if you are a music lover or an experienced conductor, you're welcome to visit our course. Enjoy the process of preparing an opera and listen to our team's best tips!
