Set in a dystopian future Japan, an outbreak of canine flu has led to all dogs being quarantined on Trash Island, an exile colony. 12-year-old Atari Kobayashi (Koyu Rankin) defies the authorities to embark on a daring rescue mission to the island to save his beloved dog Spots (Liev Schreiber).
