Worship Team Application

Dear Worship Team Applicant, Thank you so much for taking the time to express an interest in serving with the Big Pine Key Vineyard Worship Team! This packet will contain what we expect from worship team members, an application, and audition procedures. Once you are finished with the application, return it to the church office and we will set up an audition. We believe in One More. One More lost sheep to its shepherd; One More lost child to daddy; One More for God. Everything we do at Big Pine Key Vineyard follows that belief; Worship is no different. We look forward to you helping us get One More! Stephen Lawes Senior Pastor Bill Underwood Worship Director Douglas Lawes Worship Administrator

Joining the Worship Team Do you have a sense of calling to worship leadership and a desire to share your musical gifting with this community? If so, please read on to learn about why and how we do what we do here at the Vineyard. As you may be aware, worship is central to the history of the Vineyard movement, which began in the 1970 s in Southern California when some burned out hippies discovered Jesus and sought to follow Him with their lives. Music played an important role from the beginning of the Vineyard as these folks would often get together and sing simple songs to God for hours. As they sang, these men and women had deep, life-transforming experiences of God s presence manifest in and around them. Rather than using old hymns, they wrote new songs in the vernacular of the day. Early Vineyard music had a trademark of simplicity and intimacy, which we still value some 30 years later. At Big Pine Key Vineyard, we strive to create a fun, friendly atmosphere to minister to those who are looking for Christ. We believe that the music we play should reach out to everyone, focusing on contemporary style. We strive to create an upbeat sound, but still have intimate moments of worship to connect with God. We believe we should constantly strive to improve to always provide the best praise experience for church guests. The music we play is very contemporary. We play songs from Mercy/Vineyard publishing, Kingsway publishing, Passion, Hillsong, Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, and many other great Christian artists and publishers. At Big Pine Key Vineyard, we have expectations that every member of each worship team is encouraged to follow. They are located on the following pages.

EXPECTATIONS FOR WORSHIP Strive for excellence - As musicians, we need to strive for excellence in our playing. That means that we really need to make a commitment to regularly listening to music and practicing. By being apart of the Vineyard worship team, we encourage all the musicians to never stop learning and growing. For instance, taking lessons is a great idea. You might also want to take a music theory class or read a book on worship. If you re a singer, take voice lessons. Do whatever it takes to grow and improve! Come to rehearsals thinking creatively - We are all to be active participants in crafting the songs so that they are enjoyable to play and powerful in Spirit. That often takes creativity. Generally, we are a cover band and we will work up an arrangement that is close to the recording, but even when we do a song just like the original, there is often room for creativity! Sacrifice self-expression for playing as a TEAM - While being creative is valued, playing together as team is vital to the style of music that we play. As a result, team members need to be able to play their part and not go off on their own creative ventures. Everyone has a part, and we need to make sure that we are playing ours, and not everyone else s! Humility is also an important value we have. Come to practice with the mindset of a servant. Be at all rehearsals on time - Please let us know ahead of time if you are going to miss practice. Do not show up to practice late! Every

worship team member will be expected to come prepared. All members gain access to worshipteam.com - the scheduling software we use to help us maintain schedules, chord charts, and communicate amongst each other. Practice good rehearsal etiquette. - Be aware of what is happening during rehearsal and stay connected. Don t do your own thing as it is a major distraction for the other team members and you miss important information. Seek peace and pursue it - If you ever have a relational problem with a team member, address the issue quickly, privately, and prayerfully. Be swift in restoring the relationship. This seems obvious, but it is very important that conflicts are handled correctly and swiftly so that we can continue to be a united team! Be an active participant in this church - It is important that you be a part of the community of the Vineyard Community Church, that you know what the church is about, and that you know why you have chosen to be a part of it. Your regular attendance on the weekend is a great indicator of how committed you are here. One of the main reasons why there is a worship team is to bless the Body, which we want you to be apart of! We also expect you to Encourage two people and be Thankful for five things everyday so we can get One More into the Kingdom of God!

Yes No Contact Information Have you had training on your instrument/voice? Yes No Please Describe: Are you willing to be coached and critiqued about your playing/singing? Yes No Why do you want to be on a worship team?

Auditions Once your Application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted regarding this next step in the process. Generally, current worship team members are present to support the audition process. The band will play a song that is part of our normal repertoire. Once you have had a chance to hear the song several times, you will be asked to sing/play. This is not something that anyone should feel intimidated by. In reality, we desire for all the musicians in our church to be serving in some capacity (be it on Sunday morning or in small groups, etc...). This is simply a formal way of finding out where you are musically and where you might best fit at this time, given your abilities. Rehearsals Rehearsals will be at various times throughout the week. Attendance to practice is expected of our worship team members. Musical Standards Our general standard is that musicians be able to sight-read a basic chord chart (while producing a good musical sound). A general understanding of music theory is preferred, but not required. Vocalists need to be able to hear various vocal parts, have a strong sense of melody, and sing on key.
