MUSICAL SECTION General conditions: RULES OF THE CONTEST 1. Deadline for registration: March 23 rd 2018 2. The contest is open to any participants who study music in any pre-university education unity (grades Preparatory XII), as well as to students from Conservatories, as follows: - group A: grades Prep. VIII; III VIII wind instruments; - group B: grades IX XII; - group C: Academica (students) 3. In order to enter the contest, the participant must submit the application form signed by the principal of their education unity, via e-mail at concurstodutadeva@gmail.com (only for the participants from pre-university education unities). The participants must have on them a valid identification document (copy of the birth certificate/i.d./passport/report) 4. The repertory will be presented exclusively by heart. 5. First day of the contest is Thursday, the 3 rd of May 2018 with the Piano section and it continues with the rest of the sections on Friday and Saturday. The Award Ceremony and the Gala Concert, performed by the winners selected by the board of the contest, are programmed for the 5 th of May 2018 at the venue of Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation from Deva. 1. Sections and categories in the contest: There are five sections in the contest: Section I PIANO Section II VIOLIN Section III LOW STRINGS Section IV WOODWIND AND BRASS INSTRUMENTS GRADES III - Academica Section V-a CLASSICAL CANTO (for groups B and C) 2. Repertory: SECTION I PIANO: Participants will present in the contest two different pieces in terms of style and musical character (studies excluded!!!!!). Timing: Group A grades Prep.- IV - 10 minutes; grades V-VIII 15 minutes; Groups B and C -20 minutes The pieces will be performed WITHOUT ANY PREVIOUS REHEARSAL volta excepted
SECTION II VIOLIN: Group A - grades Prep. IV: two different pieces in terms of style and musical character 10 min. - grades V VIII: - study 15 min. Group B - grades IX XII: - study 20 min. Group C ACADEMICA: - 2 movements from a work by Johann Sebastian Bach or Ciaccona Partita No. 2 in Re 25 min. SECTION III LOW STRINGS: Group A - grades Prep. IV : two different pieces in terms of style and musical character 10 min. - grades V VIII: - study 20 min. Group B - grades IX XII: - study 20 min. Grupa C ACADEMICA: - 2 movements from a work by J. S. Bach 30 min. SECTION IV WOODWIND AND BRASS INSTRUMENTS: Groups A and B, grades III - XII: two different pieces in terms of style and musical character 15 min. Group C: ACADEMICA:- two parts from a Romantic concert or a Romantic Sonata in different tempos 20 min. -a work from a different stylistic period. SECTION V CLASSICAL CANTO Group B grade IX pre-classic aria, Romantic or Romanian lied -grade X pre-classic aria, Romantic or Romanian lied - grade XI Ancient aria, Classic aria, Romantic or Romanian lied -grade XII Classic aria, Romantic aria, Romanian lied Group C Academica Oratorio aria (from universal literature), Opera aria (from universal literature), Romanian lied composed by Sigismund Toduţă 3. Evaluation criteria: - Obeying the repertory and the characteristics of the lyrics - Accuracy of the artistic interpretation - Instrumental/Vocal technique - Expresivity of the interpretation 4. The Jury: The jury is formed by personalities of the musical education schools (pre-university and university level) and the results are final and undisputed. No appeals are admitted. The jury has the competence of interrupting the contestants who exceed the maximum timing allowed for the group they compete in.
5. Awards: 1. There will be awarded The First Prize, The Second Prize, The Third Prize and distinctions for each grade and section in the contest. The jury will designate those winners who will perform at the Gala Concert, occasion with which the jury will award two Grand Prizes: Grand Prize for Group A and Grand Prize for Groups B and C. 2. The Prize for the best interpretation of a work belonging to Sigismund Toduță will be awarded by Professor Ana Fodor, musicologist, member of Sigismund Toduță Foundation, reporter of the City Hall of Belfort France for The International Music University Festival. 3. The Prize for the best piano interpretation of a Romantic work, awarded by N.G.O. Piano Modus Vivendi. The costs with transport, accomodation and meals will be covered by the participants. Organizers can offer help with the accomodation and meals at the boarding schools of the local high schools, within the limit of the seats available. Estimated cost: accomodation 20 lei, Breakfast 4 lei, Lunch 9 lei, Dinner 5 lei B. VISUAL ARTS SECTION (visual arts and architecture) Thematic: I. Visual arts Centenary II. Graphics - POSTER - 110 years since the birth of the virtuoso composer Sigismund Toduță The contest is divided in two main workshops and four age categories. SECTIONS: a) Workshop 8 for the students in grades V VIII; Two categories: V-VI, VII-VIII b) Workshop 12 for the students in grades IX XII (students enrolled in high schools of arts and architecture); Two categories: IX-X, XI-XII For Workshop 8, the sections available will be: GRAPHICS, PAINTING, DECORATIVE ARTS For Workshop 12, the sections available will be: 1. Poster, 2. Painting, 3. Sculpture, 4. Decorative arts, 5. Architecture, 6. Art of photography Contestants are allowed to use both traditional and high tech techniques, specific to each section in the contest. For the section Sculpture, the contestants will send 6 photographs of their works, format A5, taken from 6 different angles. EVALUATION: The works presented in the contest will be evaluated by a qualified jury, formed of visual artists, qualified teachers, architects and representatives of cultural venues. REGULATIONS OF PARTICIPATION: The contest is open to students in grades V-XII enrolled in the national arts high schools, with works of plastic and decorative arts, architecture and design projects. Each high school is allowed to enter 10 works in the contest, for each age category/section.
The works will have the following dimensions: For grades V VIII format A3 (420/297 mm) For grades IX XII format 40/60 cm On the back of the works, there will be the following information: Contestant s name Age /grade School/High school Address, telephone number Section attended Technique Name of the coordinator teacher The works will be sent by post, together with a nominal table containing the name of the participant, the title of the work and the contest section attended. The table has to be approved by the management of the institute. Expedition fees will be paid by the sender. The works entered in the contest will not be returned to the senders, they will be used to set exhibitions and they will become the patrimony of Sigismund Toduță Arts High School from Deva. By sending the works for the contest, the participants approve that their works would be used on promotional materials. The promotional materials cannot be sold. The evaluation of the works will be done starting on the 3 rd of May until the 5 th of May, 2018.
