The Herb Shop H A PP Y N EW Y E A R! Happy and Healthy New Year! It is so amazing to think that we have entered another New Year, but here we are in 2016 and looking forward to more wonderful things to come this year at the Fayetteville Herb Shop. In 2015, there were a lot of changes. Some changes you may have noticed, and some you may not have. Most of you know that my mom and dad, Pat and Ray Sparks, semi-retired to the mountains of North Georgia. You know I mean SEMI because my mom has so much energy and Spark, (pun intended!) I can t imagine her sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair for very long. So she and dad opened a new location in a cute little barn in Talking Rock, Georgia. Visit them and their website at www.talkingrockherbsnthings.com. They left the Herb Shop to me and my husband, Rob, beginning in June. In August, we changed our hours to stay open one hour later Mondays through Thursdays. This helped many of you coming in from Atlanta, or others who didn t get off to make it before we closed. Our new hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We re still closed Saturdays and Sundays. We ve also welcomed some new faces onto our staff. Carsten is our behind the scenes man. He created our fabulous new logo of the farmer bringing fresh herbs from the garden to our shop. He may ring up a purchase now and then if he isn t helping out with the computers and all that technical stuff. He also works alongside Rebekah on our website. You ll also meet our newest Sales Associates, Susan and Roberta. Roberta worked with me at Herbal Planet for several years. Susan comes to us after several years at another shop in Henry County. They are both an answer to prayer and truly a God-send! They both have many years experience and (Continued on page 2) Pg. 1 New Year s Resolution Sale! January, 2016 Wild Yam on herbs was may be some in it, but the human body is not about Wild Yam and now the first article I am able break them down and utilize them. While writing for The Herb Shop is about Wild Yam. It researchers do not understand how this herb is just coincidence that the same herb is used for works on hormones in the body, many women both events. Using an herb personally lets you who actually use the herb are certain about the understand and experience what it can do so fact that it does help their hormones. It is used you re better able to explain and understand the by many women going through menopause or herb. I happened to be using that herb at both who have premenstrual issues to relieve their moments and thought that the best choice for symptoms, and it is also used to increase fertilimy article should be Wild Yam. intestinal and joint inflammation due to its antiinflammatory properties. Wild Yam also contains an important alkaloid substance which helps relax the muscles of the stomach walls and abdomen region. It also acts like a sedative to the nerves in these areas. My personal experiences with Wild Yam has been for these benefits as it improved my digestion. For a long time I used Nature s Sunshine s Gallbladder Formula with each meal. I have also used Wild Yam as a tea but I find it s best used in an herbal blend such as Gallbladder Formula if you are using it for digestion or intestinal issues. In Native American Medicine, Wild Yam is known as Rabbit Medicine. I learned this when I was researching my first paper while studying in the Herbal Practitioner Program at The Appalachian Center for Natural Health. When I was sharing my report with my teacher, Phyllis Light, she told me that Wild Yam was rabbit medicine. There is a form of Native American Medicine where herbs and people are associated with the different characteristics of animals. When you think of a rabbit, you picture something small and thin, with long thin bones, very little fat, and a nervous disposition. Rabbit medicine is for people with a rabbit constitution. It helps to build up Calcium in the bones and to calm muscle spasms. But you don t have to have that constitution for Wild Yam to help you. Susan Hey, everyone! Sorry I haven t had any news- BUT Let s change the way we go about our letters for you in a while! We have gotten super goals this year. Often times the reasons we fail isn t because we need to be more organized or to busy at the shop, and I ve had to spend all of my have more realistic goals, or to take baby steps. time on the sales floor. Which is great! Thanks It s the I ll start Monday mentality. The issue is, for shopping with us and helping our business there is always another Monday. Adjusting your grow! Have you ever had to set a New Year s Resolution If you re anything like me, then it s quite possible to plan a vacation that you are so looking forthat your New Years Resolution looks the same ward to? Or to have a Netflix marathon while as last years. Perhaps even like the year before eating chocolate? No? Why not? Because it s that! something you enjoy the process of doing! Not to worry! January, 2016 Maybe instead of making Resolutions, we should portant goal needed for a healthier lifestyle. Ademake fun goals instead! quate sleep is, as I am sure you ve heard before, needed for: For instance: Instead of making your goal to become a triathlete, (that would be pretty rad, 1. Healthy metabolism though!) you can make it a priority to get together with friends at least once a week or take the kids to the park. You may find yourselves walking and talking, getting some movement in and at the same time nurturing relationships. Who knows, your friends may want to start walking together and encourage each other to start eating cleaner! Or instead of forcing yourself to go the gym, maybe think about what would be a fun sweaty activity to you. Have you always wanted to learn to dance? There are affordable dance classes for adult beginners! Just ask around or Google Search! Always thought it would be cool to go Rock Climbing? There are great places to learn the ropes. Maybe a gentle Yoga class is more your speed or would be better suited for your health and physical needs at this time, even if you are in a wheel chair. Whatever you decide to do, make it fun! 2. Healthy blood sugar levels 3. Mood support 4. Sharp mind, learning, and memory 5. Reduce inflammation 6. Longevity 7. Weight loss 8. Energy 9. Cardiovascular health 10. Strong immune system and more! It s a simple but very important goal, and one that I would encourage everybody (including myself!) to focus on! You see, sleep may be the key to helping you reach your other goals for the year 2016! Another great goal would be to make sure that Rebekah you are getting more sleep. This is one that most people don t consider when making their New Year s Resolutions, but it could be the most im- Isaiah 40:31 But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
