Analyze melodic elements presented in a recorded example, including scales, intervals, phrasing, and melodic contours. Analyze harmonic elements presented in a recorded example, including intervals, chord types, harmonic progressions, cadences, and nonchord tones. Analyze the elements of rhythm, meter, and tempo presented in a recorded example. Analyze the elements of texture and form presented in a recorded example. SUBAREA II INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCE AND MUSIC METHODOLOGY Competency 0004 Demonstrate knowledge of string and keyboard instruments. Demonstrate knowledge of the types, characteristics, and uses of string and keyboard instruments. Demonstrate knowledge of basic playing techniques (e.g., hand position, bowing technique, fingering, posture). Apply knowledge of common problems encountered in playing and techniques for resolving such problems. Demonstrate basic knowledge of keyboard harmony, functional progressions, and simple accompaniments. Competency 0005 Demonstrate knowledge of wind and percussion instruments. Demonstrate knowledge of the types, characteristics, and uses of wind and percussion instruments.
