At CCC we offer you a warm and friendly welcome to all new and existing members; from complete beginners to the more experienced photographers, there is something for everyone to be had from one of the most comprehensive camera club s listed programme events and dedicated club facilities within Sussex. We offer an extensive and interesting range of photographic related workshops, presentations, demonstrations, studio, tuition evenings, and a variety of competitions, both print and digital, catering for all abilities and interests. Your first three visits are absolutely free and during this time you will be under no obligations. We are an active and excitingly progressive photographic club and often we have external guest speakers and judges along to support the evening. These and further benefits are available to paid-up members, including exclusive use of our Darkroom, Lightroom, and Studio s (see CCC website for details). We meet every Monday and Wednesday evenings at Hut 16, Tilgate Forest Recreation Centre. Ample free parking is readily available. We are a disabled friendly club with wheelchair access into and throughout the club s premise. Arrive 7:45pm for an 8pm start, finishing at around 10pm, with a short refreshment break at 9pm. JUDGED CLUB COMPETITION DATES FOR MEMBERS DIARIES PDI 1 19 OCTOBER 2016 PRINT 1 7 NOVEMBER 2016 PDI 2 7 DECEMBER 2016 SET SUBJECT 5 JUNE 2017 PRINT 2 9 JANUARY 2017 PDI 3 8 FEBRUARY 2017 PDI OF THE YEAR 3 APRIL 2017 PRINT 3 8 MARCH 2017 PRINT OF THE YEAR 3 MAY 2017 When entering an image for competition, there are some common mistakes you should watch out for as the judge will be looking for these to drop marks if they think it inappropriate to the image, such as: Getting the horizon angled in a landscape Having the important part of the image out of focus or inappropriate positioning of a shallow depth of field Including bright or white areas within the image that draw the eye away from the main subject matter Having the image under-exposed (black with no detail) and/or over-exposed (pure white with no detail) An image without an obvious point of interest - by this I mean that you should consider what you want the judge/viewer to focus on in the image and compose it accordingly An image with distracting elements such as bits of foliage, unnecessary clutter, rubbish etc Over manipulation of the image such that it displays digital artefacts or unnatural colours, for instance halos from over sharpening or boosted green grass (obviously depends on the effect you are trying to achieve) Empty or wasted space in an image - don t include an empty foreground or too much empty/bland sky/space, either crop it at the time of taking the picture or do it in post-production An image subject the judge has seen a thousand times before will it hold interest, is it different or original? Not having a title a well thought title can help support the image s intent and/or help the judge/viewer understand the image. This list is by no means exhaustive but is provided to help you think about what you are photographing and how you could appropriately prepare and present the image for a club competition. June 2017 [Mon 26 June 2017 - AGM & Awards] JUDGED CLUB COMPETITION DATES FOR MEMBERS DIARIES PDI 1 19 OCTOBER 2016 PRINT 1 7 NOVEMBER 2016 PDI 2 7 DECEMBER 2016 SET SUBJECT 5 JUNE 2017 PRINT 2 9 JANUARY 2017 PDI 3 8 FEBRUARY 2017 PDI OF THE YEAR 3 APRIL 2017 PRINT 3 8 MARCH 2017 PRINT OF THE YEAR 3 MAY 2017 When entering an image for competition, there are some common mistakes you should watch out for as the judge will be looking for these to drop marks if they think it inappropriate to the image, such as: Getting the horizon angled in a landscape Having the important part of the image out of focus or inappropriate positioning of a shallow depth of field Including bright or white areas within the image that draw the eye away from the main subject matter Having the image under-exposed (black with no detail) and/or over-exposed (pure white with no detail) An image without an obvious point of interest - by this I mean that you should consider what you want the judge/viewer to focus on in the image and compose it accordingly An image with distracting elements such as bits of foliage, unnecessary clutter, rubbish etc Over manipulation of the image such that it displays digital artefacts or unnatural colours, for instance halos from over sharpening or boosted green grass (obviously depends on the effect you are trying to achieve) Empty or wasted space in an image - don t include an empty foreground or too much empty/bland sky/space, either crop it at the time of taking the picture or do it in post-production An image subject the judge has seen a thousand times before will it hold interest, is it different or original? Not having a title a well thought title can help support the image s intent and/or help the judge/viewer understand the image. This list is by no means exhaustive but is provided to help you think about what you are photographing and how you could appropriately prepare and present the image for a club competition.
