Additional Instructions for the Arlec Energy Cost Meter PC222 I found the instructions that came with the Arlec Energy Cost Meter PC222 a bit confusing and difficult to read. So I wrote my own! I found the original instructions confusing because they use some terms that the meter does not and in some places they are simply wrong. This meter is easy to use but can be complicated to set up. Do however, fully read the instructions that came with the meter, as there are important warnings to take notice of. This meter is for indoor use only. The maximum load is 10 amp at 2400 watt. Please also take note of the other warnings in the original instructions. These additional instructions are mainly for users in the south west of WA who buy their electricity from Synergy and are on the A1 tariff rate. Synergy charges their customers at the rate of 1 unit = 1 Kilo Watt Hour (Kwh). You can find the exact tariff on their website or on your bill. The meter has a small, but informative, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) screen. You may need to use a magnifying glass to read it all as some important items that are used to set up the meter are tiny. The LCD screen turns itself off to save the battery. If the screen turns off simply press the FUNC button once to reactivate the LCD screen. It is easy to loose track of where you are up to when the LCD screen turns off. These additional instructions assume you have plugged your meter in to the electricity and that the LCD screen does not turn off. It is much easier to set up the meter if it is plugged in using an extension cord. If the meter is plugged in, the LCD screen does not turn off. Plug the meter into an extension cord to make it easier to read. Plug the extension cord into a electricity outlet and turn the electricity on. The meter has a upper menu and a lower menu. Setting up and using the meter requires you to be able to recognise what menu you are currently on. Instructions on how to swap from one menu to another can be found in the appendix. You will need to set up your meter when it is new and again when you replace the batteries, or use the Master Clear button on the front of the meter. Additional Instructions for the Arlec Energy Cost Meter PC222 Page 1

To set up the meter 1. Open the battery case on the back of the meter and remove the plastic tab that stops the batteries from working. You may need to gently prise up the cover. Ensure you replace the batteries the correct way around according to the diagram molded on the cover. 2. Set the current day and time on the meter 3. Set the price per unit of power for your area on the lower menu. To set the current day and time, 1. Go to the upper menu, 2. Press the FUNC button reportedly until either VOLTac, Amp, Watt or Kwh are displayed on the LCD screen. 3. Press the SET button. The day and current time clock appears in the lower right of the LCD screen (red box) and SET (blue box) is displayed. (see the picture below) 4. Press the SET button and the first abbreviation of the day begins to flash 5. Press the UP button to change the day. 6. Press the SET button again to save the day and move to the first time digit. (The supplied instructions calls a digit, digital.) Repeat these last two steps for all the digits of the time. 7. Press the FUNC button to save the settings and return to the upper menu. When setting the current day and time, SET is shown in the blue box. The current day and the current time are shown in the red box. (the coloured boxes are are only on the picture, not on the meter) To set the clock to read either 12hour or 24 hour by first going to the upper menu and then press the UP button while either VOLTac, Amp, Watt or Kwh are displayed on the LCD screen. To set the cost per unit of electricity where you pay one flat rate, use the lower menu and set the price you pay per unit of electricity. The LCD screen will display this as Cost Kwh + Price 1. Set this price by, 1. Go to the lower menu. 2. Press the SET button and the first digit begins to flash and the SET sign on the LCD screen will be displayed. 3. Additional Instructions for the Arlec Energy Cost Meter PC222 Page 2

Do not set this blank clock (shown in a red box that was added to this illustration) if you pay a flat rate for your electricity irrespective of what time you use it. You only need to set this time if you intend to set the price of the Off Peak tariff as well. The meter will automatically cycle you to Cost Kwh + Price 2 if you set this time. Press the FUNC button to save this information and return to the upper menu. To reset all the data inside the meter, including the time. Push the button called MASTER CLEAR. Insert something small and thin to push this button. If you push this button you will have to set up your meter again. (Removing and replacing the batteries will give the same effect). To set the meter to be ready for the next metering, 1. Go to the upper menu 2. Press the FUNC button for more than 1 second while either WATT max, Kwh or TOTAL PRICE are displaying on the LCD screen. The item that is displayed will be reset back to 0 ready for the next use of the meter. 3. Go to the next item you want to clear and repeat these steps. How to use the meter 1. ensure that any new metering you do will not be added to your old metering. (You can also add the totals of these items to your new metering by not resetting these items back to 0.) 2. Appendix : Menu operation. This meter has two levels of menus. An upper menu and a lower menu. There is no easy way to tell which menu you are on except to look at the LCD screen carefully to see the fine printing of some of the items. You may need to use a magnifying glass. Looking at the fine print is the best way to be sure you are on the correct menu. Each menu will cycle through different items. The LCD screen looks like this when all the items from both menus are displayed at the same time. Note how small some items are. The LCD screen only does this for a short time when the master clear button is pressed or batteries are inserted into the back of the meter. Plug the meter into an extension cord to make it easier to read. Upper menu. The upper menu appears when the unit is first turned on by pressing and releasing the FUNC button once. (assuming the meter is plugged in) By repeatedly pressing and releasing the FUNC button various upper menu items can be cycled through. Upper menu items are; VOLTac AMP WATT WATT max Kwh TOTAL PRICE This is the first screen you see on the upper menu when the meter is plugged in and turned on. (your values might be different depending on the electricity in your area) The large numbers are showing the line voltage, The VOLTac sign is in the upper right of the screen. The current time clock is in the lower right. The day of the week ( MO for Monday) is towards the middle. The line frequency in Hertz is at the lower left of the screen. By repeatedly pressing and releasing the FUNC button you can cycle through various menu items. Lower Menu The meter will display the lower menu if the FUNC button is held down for more than 1 second while either VOLTac, Amp or Watt from the upper menu are displayed on the LCD screen. The lower menu is used to set the price you pay for electricity and other items. (You will not go to the lower menu if Watt + MAX is showing.) Additional Instructions for the Arlec Energy Cost Meter PC222 Page 5

If you reach the lower menu by mistake, simply hold down the FUNC button for more than one second to return to the upper menu. By pressing and releasing the FUNC button repeatedly, other items on the lower menu can be seen. On this view, the large numbers can be set to the cost of one unit of electricity. The Cost Kwh sign is displayed towards the upper right of the screen. The Price 1 sign is displayed on the right hand side so you know this cost refers to the cost of electricity at the first tariff. A blank clock is displayed that can be set to the start time for the off peak tariff. If this clock has not been set then -:-- is displayed on the LCD screen. This blank clock can be seen in the lower right of the display next to the ON TIME sign. The lower menu cycles by pressing and releasing the FUNC button repeatedly. The cycle is; Cost Kwh + Price 1 Cost Kwh + Price 2 AMP + Max Load Cost Kwh + Price 2 only appears on this cycle if the time this charge begins has first been set on Cost Kwh + Price 1. Cost Kwh + Price 1 will always be displayed on the lower menu even if the other items on the lower menu are not set. If only Cost Kwh + Price 1 is set, this meter will apply this tariff 24 hours per day. The SET and UP buttons are only used on the items displayed on the lower menu and on the current day and time clock. When the SET button can be used, SET is displayed in the upper right corner of the LCD screen. SET is displayed in the upper right corner and is shown in a red box that was added to the illustration. To return to the upper menu, press and hold the FUNC button for more than 1 second while any lower menu item appears on the lower menu.
