A Salute To Country Weeklies A country town s weekly newspaper is the heart of its community. The news is gathered as it happens sometimes even before it happens! Stories are written daily and sent to the printer to be combined in the newspaper that comes out at the end of the week. So a local person could become engaged on page 6, fight a bushfire on page 7 and by page 10 get married to someone completely different! The captions might be mixed up, the spelling erratic, and there may even be handwritten corrections or rude comments that someone forgot to rub out before the paper was printed. But there s more excitement, community caring (and gossip!) than you ll ever find in a big city daily. I ve been a devoted reader of country newspapers for decades and I hope that you will enjoy the Shaggy Gully Times just as much.
