Synopsis An adulterous husband a meddlesome neighbour and a dropped ice cream cone are among the circumstances that combine to shatter the life of suburban housewife Rhonda Russell. Everyone has their own story to tell about the day that Rhonda went berserk in the shopping mall. And who s to know where the truth lies? With the best friend who might have egged her on? With the husband who denies responsibility? Or with the victim s family whose lives were changed forever? And then there s the story of the vengeful redhead herself, but she s probably the least likely to know what really happened. This story is told through the musings and recollections of 7 characters. Each has their own perspective on the details; each has been touched by the events; each has their own twist on the tale. Roles Available: 2 Females, 1 Male Character Description Stage Age Rhonda Russell The Redhead; Rhonda is a middle-aged housewife, married to Graham and mother of Damien; Rhonda is our protagonist, the vengeful redhead, consumed by circumstances that rock her middle-class world and shake her from her oblivious meandering through life. 40-50s Alexandra Doucette Lynette Anderson Matthew McKinnon Graham Russell Joan Carlisle Tanya Moisevitch Alex is a doctor whose lesbian partner, Chrissie, is the mother of their son, Matthew. Alex and Chrissie have been together for many years, happily living their lives with the kids (also Ellen, Chrissie s daughter from her previous marriage to Sam). Alex s world is turned upside down when a stranger (Rhonda) attacks Chrissie in the local mall. The Brunette; Lynette is Rhonda s next-door neighbour & best friend. Lynette is a gossip, but under the veil of good intention, is often surprised by the consequences that follow from her supposedly innocent ramblings. Lynette is the kind of person who is always there to pick up the pieces but you have to wonder whether she was the one smashing in the first place. To be played by an adult; Matthew is four years old, and his mummy has gone away forever he struggles to understand this concept and acts out. To be played with childlike qualities, not childish; to be played with the innocence of a child, not as a caricature of a child. Rhonda s husband Graham has few redeeming qualities. He is a flawed man, unaware and self-important. Yet Graham has his vulnerabilities in the grip of a mid-life crisis where he is being left behind by his peers and oblivious Rhonda, he just plods along in the middle-class world that he suddenly finds himself in, Graham acts out too with Tanya, an exotic Russian who works down at the local mall. Joan lives next door to Alex & Chrissie. She has seen Matthew & Ellen growing up. But in the recent years, that is without Chrissie, Joan reflects on the view of the family after Chrissie s misadventure and the impact of that one event on the lives of this once happy family. A Blonde. Russian Accent. Tanya is no innocent. She knows the power she wields with her looks, her persona and her exotic Russian ways. But Graham Russell is not the kind of guy she is intending to attract. She is after a far better, more handsome and richer man. Graham s attentions are quaint, but not encouraged and in a way, a little bit creepy. 30-40s 40-50s 4 40-50s 70-80s DIRECTOR S NOTES: The actor s age is not important. Their ability to play various ages and distinctively different characters is the important element. The three performers will play the 7 characters; the allocation of characters will be done when the cast is determined. MAKE-UP & COSTUMES For productions some make-up and costumes will need to be provided by the cast, but speciality costumes will be provided. A basic make-up kit is available. CREW ALSO WANTED: If you are interested in being involved in the production please contact Racquel. We are looking for experienced people and people with capabilities and a passion to learn. 38 The Blonde, the Brunette & the Vengeful Redhead Audition and Information pack Page 4
