The prpsed facilities will include: 50-220 seat flexible, purpse-built perfrmance space: Acustically tunable as a cncert hall, Classic black-bx theatre setting, Intimate cabaret setting, Retractable seating fr flat flr use. Rehearsal spaces: 3 separate spaces available t the cmmunity, Can be used as perfrmance venues with prductin capabilities, Can be used fr meetings, wrkshp r master classes, Sprung flrs suitable fr dance, 1 space at main stage level can be used in cnjunctin with Prt Theatre events. Its edges and angles are mre than just an aesthetic statement we hpe t encurage edginess in the prgramming at the Cmmunity Perfrming Arts Centre: mre cntemprary and experimental cntent, mre diversity and inclusin, and mre artistic risk. This spring, Cuncil unanimusly passed the Cultural Plan fr a Creative Nanaim, n the heels f recgnizing Cultural Vitality as the furth pillar f sustainability. The Prt Theatre s Bard f Directrs, staff and 200+ vlunteers are cmmitted t meeting ur cmmunity s need, while serving the City. THE COMMUNITY PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE FROM INCEPTION 1986-88: The studi theatre/rehearsal hall was identified as a cmmunity need in the riginal feasibility study by the Crnerstne Grup. 1995: Design develpment f the rehearsal hall was pstpned s as nt t cmprmise cmpletin f the larger perfrmance hall. 1998: The Prt Theatre pened. 1998-2008: Plans and designs fr a studi theatre cntinued. The Prt Theatre raised funds thrugh its wn capital campaign t invest in ge-technical engineering and architectural design. Technical drawings were cmpleted in 2008. 2007: Nanaim was named a 2008 Cultural Capital f Canada by the federal gvernment. 2009: The Prt Theatre cnsulted with 23 ptential user grups t determine their needs fr the studi theatre and rehearsal spaces. 2009-12: The Prt Theatre created and implemented a series f intimate cncerts and perfrmances in the lbby and n stage, prving the ppularity and demand fr small-scale perfrmance space. A Cultural Plan fr a Creative Nanaim identifies the Need fr expansin f the Prt Theatre t create a studi theatre/rehearsal space cmplex 2012: The City f Nanaim adpted a Crprate Strategic Plan, which identified Cultural Vitality as the furth pillar f sustainability and the need fr a cultural plan t help guide municipal cmmitments and decisins. 2013: The Prt Theatre Sciety created a 5-year strategic plan t take the prject thrugh t cmpletin. 2013: Nanaim Ecnmic Develpment Crpratin cmpleted an Ecnmic Impact Study fr the lcal arts and culture sectr which indicated a direct, indirect and induced impact cmbined ttal f $153 millin t the prvincial ecnmy in 2012. 2013: The City f Nanaim s A Cultural Plan fr a Creative Nanaim was develped with input frm thusands f residents and numerus cultural rganizatins.
