STAND-UP POSITIONS FOR THE NATO SUMMIT 2018 VERSION: 4 JULY 2018

NATO offers some 40 stand-up positions for media during the Brussels Summit 2018. All stand-up positions will be available from 10 July at 9h00 continuously 24 hours a day until 13 July at 9h00. Some stand-ups will be closed during the afternoon of 10 July from 13h00 to 18h00. Media are also encouraged to request overnight access to the external positions by the flags in writing and in advance, at this email: broadcastoperations@hq.nato.int 3

Flags-area outside positions 26 stand-up positions are available in the flags-area outside the new NATO HQ providing a backdrop of the 29 Allied flags and the headquarters façade. These positions all provide cover for the cameraman. Power, built-in lighting and Wi-Fi is available. The stand-ups are all equipped with a video BNC and audio XLR (bidirectional) connection provided by NATO, linking the positions to the satellite van parking 400 meters away (See map). Cabled internet is available at all positions (20 Mbps). Transportation by buses between the Media Centre and the flags standup area will be provided on a continuous basis. (More details on transport schedule and modalities are below). Media should be advised that on 10 July the stand-up positions by the flags will be closed from 13h00 until 18h00. Additionally, on 11 July, the shuttles to and from the flags stand-up positions will be interrupted from 13h00 to 15h00. The positions will stay operational but during this period media will not be able to move between the Media Centre and the stand-ups. 4 There is a maximum capacity of 3 people per stand-up position and a card system for the shuttles will be implemented to ensure that the total capacity of the area is not exceeded. Cards will bear the number of the position where the cardholder is working. A stand-up shuttle card is needed to board the

buses, these are given out at the Transport Desk in the Media Centre. If you wish to access a stand-up position in the flags-area, please come to the Transport Desk as soon as you arrive and get yourself a Shuttle Bus Card. As soon as you return from the stand-up position, you have to hand back the card to our staff members in order to enable other members of the media to board the bus again. We urge all participants to comply with this system, as misuse will lead to less accessibility of stand-up positions and to delays. The shuttle to the outside stand-up positions will operate in a loop system, starting from the entrance of the Media Centre next to the sat van parking and dropping off/picking up passengers behind the flags-area. As of now the shuttle will operate on a continuous basis during the following hours: 10 July: 9-22h 11 July: 7-24h 12 July: 7-23h If media need to access stand-up positions in the flags-area outside shuttle operating hours, please contact us via: broadcastoperations@hq.nato.int During the nighttime, the background to the external stand-up positions are of the flags and façade of the building, both of which will be lightly lit. The stand-up shuttle bus route is indicated as the GREEN LINE, pick-ups and drop-off points will be clearly marked. Delegates are not permitted on the stand-ups. Military Band NATO Star Official Area Toilets are available near the stand-ups and a covered rest area is also available for media. Consumption of food and beverages is allowed in the rest area. Cables, video/audio connections and plug-ins for electricity Media should bring their own cables for all stand-up areas. A patching point between the stand-ups and the sat van area is provided by NATO with following connections for each stand-up position. - 1 HD Connection (BNC) to the sat van - 1 HD Connection (BNC) from the sat van - 1 analog audio (XLR) connection from the sat van - 1 analog audio (XLR) connection to the sat van Plug-ins for power are Belgian Schuko (see image). No analog telephone lines are provided. Electricity is 230v. The positions are Internet cabled and provide a bandwidth of 20 Mbps. The signal between the stand-ups and the SAT VAN area is transmitted via fiber. Requests and allocation process for Stand-Ups Requests to book stand-up positions should be directed to broadcastoperations@hq.nato.int NATO will conduct the allocation process and its decisions will aim to take account of reach, frequency of reporting, geographical balance, neutrality and time zones. A number of positions will be allocated to companies providing space and services for a fee, enabling unsuccessful bids to access positions in that way. 11

Agora inside New NATO HQ View from stand-ups 9 stand-ups will operate from the north end of the Agora, inside NATO HQ, providing a backdrop of the new HQ iconic agora hall from the inside. They are on an elevated platform, a short walking distance from the Media Centre. These positions are operational from 10 July at 9h00 continuously 24 hours a day and close on 13 th July at 9h00. There is continuous movement on the 11 th and 12 th of July. Each position has a maximum capacity of 3 people who need to have cards to access to the positions. The cards can be picked up at the Transport Desk in the Media Centre. Cards will bear a number associated with each position. These positions are not suitable for interviews with delegation members, and media are requested not to invite delegates to the positions. Security will be instructed to monitor use of the positions. The Agora stand-ups do NOT have built-in lighting so media outlets are advised to bring their own lighting equipment. Power plug-ins and Wi-Fi are available as well as cabled internet (20 Mbps). No toilets or rest area for media is available nearby. The closest toilets are in the Media Centre. 12

Arrival and parking of SAT-VANS Parking will be available for Satellite Trucks from media covering the SUMMIT. Power and Wi-Fi will be available on-site. Media should direct their requests to broadcastoperations@hq.nato.int providing information on make and model, size, registration number of the truck, name of the driver and his mobile number and time of arrival. Satellite van accessibility and security procedures need to be completed on 9 or 10 July before 17h. Preferably the vans should arrive in the morning. Satellite and SNG trucks will be swept by security upon entry and during the event. Should NATO security request it, please open your trucks and comply with security sweeps. Exceptional requests for earlier arrivals will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Duly accredited media representatives can also bring in bulky equipment as from 09 July (by appointment) and no later than 10 July at 17h. Paragraphs 25 and 33 in the 1 June media advisory also contain information on SAT vans. Questions, clarifications or additional information? Please don t hesitate to ask questions if clarification is needed or to ask for additional information at broadcastoperations@hq.nato.int See also media advisory for more information.
