2.2 Mounting the IP-LINX Enclosure 1. Place the mounting-hole template against the wall where you want to mount the enclosure. 2. Mark the location of the appropriate template holes on the wall. 3. Install suitable wall anchors (not included). 4. Secure the enclosure to the wall. Figure 3 - Rubber Grommet 2.3 Installing the Incoming Cable 1. Score the grommet with a utility knife at the desired cable entry location. Refer to Figures 3 and 4 2. Push the cable through the hole that you cut in the grommet. 3. Mark the cable according to the number of wraps you wish to store in the IP-LINX enclosure. Use the tables below to determine where to make the mark. The tables provide the length of incoming cable that can be stored given the number of spool layers in the enclosure. Figure 4 - Rubber Grommet at Cable Entry Location Table 1 - Splice & Patch Marking Location: Storage Spools (Enclosure & Cassette) Inches Cm 1 80 203 ±2 2 140 356 ±2 Table 2 - Patch Only Storage Spools Inches Marking Location: 1.5 70 178 ±2 2.5 102 259 ±2 3.5 138 351 ±2 The number of wraps the cables make within the IP-LINX enclosure is left up to installer preference. For other lengths or paths, use the spools, and maintain proper bend radius. Cm 5
4. Slide the grommet up the cable past the mark on the cable jacket. 5. If not already, re-install the rubber gromment int he slot on the enclosure. 2.3.1 Installing the Optional Cable Clamp Kit for Standard Indoor Enclosure 1. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove two screws from the cable bracket at the top or bottom of the panel. 2. Place the bracket around the cable in the desired location. 3. Reinstall the two screws to hold the cable bracket firmly in place. 4. Attach the clamp bracket to the top or bottom of the enclosure, next to the cable entry slot. Figure 5 - Cable Bracket Figure 6 - Cable Clamp on Enclosure 2.3.2 Installing the Incoming Cable in the Outdoor Assembly 1. Loosen compression nut by turning counter clockwise. 2. Insert cable end through the cord grip gland. (Accepts cable dia..435-.705 in.) 3. Tighten compression nut by turning clockwise. 6

2.4 Using IP-LINX to Patch Only Use the instructions in this section if you are using the IP-LINX enclosure for patch only. 1. From the cable entry end, wrap the fiber strands counter-clockwise around the spools. For bottom cable entry, route the strands clockwise. 2. Attach the connectors to the column of patch plate adapters closest to the back wall of the enclosure. Attach the connectors in order, from top-to-bottom. Use Table 3, Fiber Connection Color Codes, listed below. 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for the next group of 12 fiber strands, and attach the connectors to the next column of adapters (1-12, top to bottom). NOTE: Always load the patch plates from top to bottom and from the rear of the IP-LINX enclosure to the front of the enclosure. Figure 8 - Patch-Only Fiber Routing Refer to the following table for fiber connection color codes. Table 3 - Fiber Connection Color Codes For This Connection: 1 Blue 2 Orange 3 Green 4 Brown 5 Gray 6 White 7 Red 8 Black 9 Yellow 10 Purple 11 Pink 12 Aqua Use This Color: 8
2.5 Splice and Patch: Installing Pigtails Use the instructions in this section if you are using the IP-LINX enclosure to splice and patch. 1. Attach the pigtail connectors to the column of patch plate adapters closest to the back wall of the enclosure. Always attach pigtails from top to bottom and from the back wall of the enclosure to the front. Label the pigtails accordingly. 2. Route the pigtails around the spools to take up the amount of desired slack. 3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for each group of 12 pigtails, then go to the next section. NOTE: The number of wraps that pigtails and incoming cable fibers make within the IP-LINX enclosure and the splice tray is left up to installer preference. 2.6 Splice and Patch: Mounting the Splice Cassette and Finish Skip this section if you are patching only. Figure 9 - Splicing Pigtails 1. (Optional) Apply heat-shrink tubing around the jacket cut point. Keep half of the heat-shrink tube length over the cable jacket, and the other half over the exposed buffer tubes or fiber strands. See Figure 7 for an example of the installed cable and panel. If incoming cable is jacketed unsheathe the fiberoptic cable by cutting the outside jacket to an appropriate length for each fiber to be spliced according to splicing machine recommendations. 2. Trim away the excess fiber length, but leave enough fiber for splice preparation. Remove the fiber from the splice cassette to the splice station. NOTE: Use this trimmed fiber to measure and trim the length of the bundle s remaining five fibers. 3. Remove the desired splice tray. 9
4. Splice the pigtail fiber strand to the appropriate 900-μm colored fiber strand from the incoming cable. 5. Repeat Step 4 to splice the remaining pigtail fibers to the incoming cable s color-coded fiber strands. Splice the pigtails in order. Refer to Table 3, Fiber Connection Color Codes, on page 8 to follow the color-codes. 6. Once the splicing is complete, carefully route the pigtails around the provided storage spools and inside of the splice cassette once or twice counterclockwise. For bottom cable entry, wrap the fiber strands clockwise. 7. Place the completed splice into the splice holder. 8. Carefully tuck in any stray fiber strands so that they will not be pinched. Replace the cover plate on the splice cassette. 9. Slide the splice cassette onto the threaded post. 10. Secure the cassette with the wing nuts. 11. Use the adhesive designation label to identify each connection. 12. Apply the designation label to the inside of the enclosure door. 13. Close and lock the enclosure. 14. Apply grounding cables/straps to enclosure where necessary. Figure 10 - Splice Cassette (P/N TTN-11S12) Figure 11 - Splice Cassette Installation 10
