HiRadMat facility: SPS extraction and Proton beam line Working Group Notes from the meeting held on 24 February 2011 Present: Jérémie Bauche, Christian Boccard, Pascal Catherine, Pierre Dahlen, Hubert Gaillard, Guillaume Gros, Alexandre Habert, Christoph Hessler, Lars Jensen, Gilles Le Godec, Catherine Magnier, Christophe Martin, Malika Meddahi, Christophe Mutin, Serge Pelletier, Paul Pepinster, Giovanna Vandoni, Yu Wang. Excused: Kristine Bestmann, Michel Arruat, Brennan Goddard, Verena Kain, Bruno Puccio. 1. Comments on the last minutes / Follow-up actions / News Malika Meddahi Comments on the last minutes: The minutes were approved without any comments. Important dates: Next technical stop: week 13 Dry run: week 14 Beam commissioning: weeks 20 and 21 News: For the dry run cycles for HiRadMat will be provided equivalent to those for the LHC. For more information see the Malika s email: Dear all, Some notes from my discussion with Karel: Dates reminder: - dry commissioning: week 14 (4-8 April) - beam commissioning: week 20 and week 21 (from 16 May to 27 May). Needed: HiRadMat cycles with energy of 440 GeV (not 450 GeV as for LHC): - The equivalent of the LHC PROBE - The equivalent of LHC INDIV - The equivalent of the LHC2 (the one with trains)

Karel said that they can prepare the HiRadMat cycle in the shadow / in parallel with LHC operation. 3 cycles will be prepared (PROBE, INDIV and TRAINS) but limited to 1 injection from the PS (not 4). I assume that for our HiRadMat commissioning programme this should be O.K. If you have any comments / suggestions, please let me know. Cheers, Malika 2. Post mortem of the winter shutdown and remaining work for the technical stop in week 13 All BI: Christian Boccard / Lars Jensen BPKG needs to be installed and connected (support is ready). The body of BTV.660221 needs to be replaced due to an error on the screen. BTV.660518 needs to be re-installed and connected after the displacement of the temporary door in TNC. EL (AC): Alexandre Habert Some racks need to be grounded. The power converters in BA7 are not yet connected CV: Paul Pepinster Some magnets need to be connected to the cooling water circuit (mainly in TJ7/TNC). This will be done during short accesses. Fibers: Yu Wang All fiber related work, which was requested, has been completed. Yu proposed to install a reserve tube in TNC for future fibers. She will make a request to Ilias / Ans / Sebastien. The fiber connection of the timing crate needs still be done. Timing: Roland Chery / Michel Arruat (email sent prior to this meeting) Hello Christoph, I have installed the timing crate in TJ7;you have different possibilities to connect your equipment to this crate (see the "Photo crate" above).we are waiting for the next technical stop to send the signal from BA7(see the mail below concerning the fiber). Best regards, Roland Chery

-----Original Message----- Hi Roland, We planned with the contractor to connect the TJ7 patchpanel in next technical stop. Afterwards, will connect to you device. Could you please give me information/(position/picture) about your device in TJ7? Many thanks! Best regards, Yu Survey: Kristine Bestmann (email sent on 22/02/2011 prior to the meeting) Dear Malika, Tomorrow we will finish the lissage of the 5 Quadrupoles in TJ7 and TNC. Also maybe finish alignment of MDLH.660306 and MDSH.660509 (they are already good in hight and tilt). The Quadrupoles 400 and 404 as well as the 500 and 504 can be connected, but this are only two very small connections. The problem for VAC is that there are a lot of smal equipment like BPM and BTV always between the already aligned magnets. Those we planned to do last. But if it is pressing for VAC to continue with the connections, let us now, which elements are the most needed. That can be done the next access after tomorrow. For us the most important was to finish the Quadrupoles with good pressision. After we can align everything else more easily. Thanks a lot for finding so much time for still accessing the tunnel. This is a big help for us, even if it might seam to you we are making very slow progress. Best regards, Kristine Vacuum: Giovanna Vandoni The vacuum system has been installed up to QTLF.660300 and is under vacuum. For the installation of the next components, which depends on the progress of the survey work, Giovanna made the following proposal to Kristine after the meeting:

Dear Kristine, Thank you for this complete report! If I remember, leaving BPMs and BTVs for the end is one of your constraints, but having quadrupoles and MDs aligned is already a big help for us, it gives us nice limits of zones to connect. So to summarize and following the logics you've chosen for better alignment, I would state the situation like this (can you please confirm my assumptions?): 1) MDLH.660306 - QTLD.660400 - QTLD.660404: ready for vacuum connection 2) QTLF.660500 - QTLF.660504: ready for vacuum connection 3) MDSH.660509: aligned and ready for vacuum connection 4) MDSV.660409 and MDLV.660512: 1st priority for alignment 5) BPMs BTVs: second priority for alignment So if you can advance on MD s and let us know as early as possible when ready for vacuum connection, we would be very grateful. Of the 2 remaining MD s, the most urgent is MDSV.660409 which would permit us to connect and pump a long zone. I ll phone you this afternoon to see with you how you intend to proceed and if this fits into your planning. Best regards Giovanna Furthermore, Giovanna asked after the meeting if o the sheet with the opening for the vacuum pipe in the door between TCC6/TJ7 could be installed during a short access and o BTV.660221 could be replaced during a short access. Integration: Catherine Magnier After the installation is completed the plans will be released as built. Therefore, a laser scan was proposed. Power converters: Gilles Le Godec Power converters quadrupoles: Installed and tested. Power converter MBS: A semiconductor has broken, which is not yet understood. The MBB converter has the same semiconductor built in and therefore its powering test has been postponed until the problem of the MBS power converter will be fixed. 4-quadrant converters: Production completed, tests not yet done due to technical problems.

Transport: Serge Pelletier Problem during winter shutdown: Work in TJ7 with so many teams. Serge proposed to have a covered area outside the monte-charge. This would make the handling of the radioactive test stands easier. EL: Guillaume Gros Some work on the control cables, arriving in front of the beam dump, still needs to be done. The zone is currently not yet accessible. Two magnets need to be connected. Actions to protect the cables on the floor will be discussed in a dedicated meeting. Interlock: Christophe Martin 3 users are not yet connected to the interlock system. The other connections have been tested and are operational. Magnet interlock: Pierre Dahlen The electronics have been installed. The connections in BA7 still need to be done (BA6 is ok).

Magnets: Jérémie Bauche / Pascal Catherine The thermo switches will be installed during short accesses. A dedicated meeting will be organized the save start-up of the magnets and the associated protection scheme. Planning: Hubert Gaillard A very preliminary version of the planning for the work concerning WG1 during the next technical stop: link During the first day of the stop the scaffolding will be dismounted and the door in TNC displaced. The details of the installation of the collimator need to be clarified with Ans. 3. AOB Dedicated meetings will be arranged whenever needed. Christoph Hessler, 28.02.2011
