A. Reading Comprehension (20 marks) Read the following passage carefully. Beansie does it again Beansie is playing in the yard with his little sister Mopsie. The two puppy dogs are very playful. They are both brown with white tips on their tails. They are running around and chasing butterflies together. (paragraph 1) "I bet you that I can run faster than you," Beansie teases his sister. (paragraph 2) "I can beat you, Beansie!" Mopsie tells him. "Girls can do anything better than boys can." Mrs. Jones is relaxing on her favourite lawn chair, a book in her hand and a tall, cool drink on the table next to her. (paragraph 3) They begin to run around the yard together. They are running wildly and having a wonderful time. Then it happens. Beansie loses his balance and crashes into Mrs. Jones' vegetable garden. He topples over her tomatoes. He crushes her potatoes and lettuce. He gets up and looks at Mrs. Jones. She is slowly getting out of her chair. She looks like she is about to cry. Beansie knows how much she loves her garden. Her vegetables and flowers are her pride and joy. He hangs his head down in shame. Her garden is now in ruins and he knows that she is going to be upset. He feels terrible. Mrs. Jones walks over to him and Beansie knows he is in trouble. Then the funniest thing happens. She bends down and hugs him hard.
