1 Year 4 English Choosing Correct Verbs Choose the correct verbs from the box below to fill in the spaces in the sentences. You can only use each word once. Remember that a verb is an action or a doing word! loomed sizzled bounced dug lapped swerved forced travelled gasped bloomed 1. The car as it lost control on the slippery road. 2. Tom and David happily on the trampoline for hours! 3. Rebecca a long way to be with her family during the holidays. 4. The girls an enormous hole in the sand before filling it with water. 5. The fat sausages under the grill. 6. Ryan when he saw what was hidden behind the sofa. 7. The tall building scarily above them. 8. The flowers in the garden all summer long. 9. Alexa the door open with a heavy kick. 10. The greedy cat up the milk until it was all gone.
2 Year 4 English Choosing Correct Adjectives Choose the correct adjectives from the box below to fill in the spaces in the sentences. You can only use each word once. Some adjectives may fit into more than one sentence, but try to end up with each sentence containing the adjective that is the best fit. Remember that an adjective is a describing word! inquisitive colossal greedy juicy excited exhausted strange wistful miserable optimistic 1. The girls were very about their upcoming trip to France. 2. Rachel felt after the terrible rain ruined her birthday party. 3. The boys were after walking all day in the heat. 4. The skyscraper was compared to the little church next door. 5. Mark felt when he saw his puppy with its new owner. 6. After the initial bad news, Mel was determined to remain. 7. The man became terribly after inheriting so much money. 8. The oranges in the supermarket looked and delicious. 9. The new kitten was very as it roamed around the house. 10. How, said mum, I m sure I left my keys in the kitchen!
3 Year 4 Maths Chunking Division The chunking method is a way of working out longer division sums where the bus stop method won t help us. It can take a little while to get the hang of, but just follow the example below and we re sure you ll be cracking complicated division questions with ease in no time at all! Example Remember that the above is really asking us, how many 12s are there in 386?. That s a little too much to take in all in one go, so we need to break up our sum into chunks. We do this by repeating multiplication sums that take us closer and closer to our answer. Start by using numbers that are easy to multiply, like 5, 10 and x 20 = 240 We can work out quite easily that 20 x 12 = 240 (because we know that 12 x 2 = 24). Now, subtract 240 from 386. We can now see that we have 146 left over. This means that we can t take away another chunk of 20 x 12, as 240 is bigger than 146. However, 10 x 12 = 120, so we can take this away instead. Now we only have 26 left! The closest we can get to 26 is 2 x 12 = 24, so we take that away too. 2 x 12 = = 2 We ve now got as close to zero as we can go. Turn to the next page to reveal the final step!
4 Year 4 Maths Chunking Division (Continued) To find our answer, we now need to add up all of the numbers on the left hand side of our working out (these are all of the numbers we multiplied by 12). + 2 x 12 = = 2 32 So, the answer to is 32 remainder 2 (because we had 2 left over at the end of our chunking). That s it! we know that it s quite a lot to take in at first, but once you get the hang of it you should find that it s a really useful tool for solving long division sums. Activity Now have a go at the chunking division questions below. Feel free to refer back to the example as many times as you need to, and don t worry if it takes a little while to get right! You can show your workings out on a separate piece of paper if you don t have enough room = = = =
