REGULATIONS Odessa International Violin Competition opens a new page in the cultural life of the city that can rightfully be considered the capital of the violin performing arts of Ukraine. Right there in Odessa in 1933, the Special Music School for gifted children was founded by professor Peter Stolyarsky who brought up a generation of outstanding violinists of the 20th century, among which are David Oistrakh and Nathan Milstein. The Stolyarsky School became a factory of talents discovering new names, whose performances captivate audience at the best venues of the world. The competition is open to young violinists from all countries, and provides an opportunity to receive worldwide recognition and a ticket to a great creative life from the homeland of musicians whose names are written in gold in the world history of classical music.

I. GENERAL Odessa International Violin Competition will be held from June 14 to 17, at the Music School No.1, Mayakovskogo lane 4/1, Odessa 65026, Ukraine and Odessa Literary Museum, Lanzheronovskaya street 2, Odessa 65026, Ukraine. The competition is supported by the mayor of Odessa, Department of Culture of Odessa City Council and Management of culture, nationalities, religions and protection of objects of cultural heritage of Odessa Regional State Administration. Goals of the competition are: development of international cultural connections, popularization of Ukrainian musical culture, strengthening of international reputation of Odessa as one of the centres of musical art, support and preservation of traditions of the Odessa violin school. The competition is open to the violinists from all countries and is held within two age categories: junior under 16 years old senior from 17 to 23 years old. The age is determined by the day of the competition opening. The competition is held in two rounds: I round video pre-selection II round open auditions No more than 12 people from each category will be admitted to the second round. Names of the participants admitted to the second round will be announced in April. The order of the 2nd round participants will be determined by a draw. The participant is provided a practice room and a rehearsal on the stage where the auditions are held. The results of the competition will be announced on the 16th of June, upon the end of the competition. All of the prizewinners are obligated to participate in the final concert on the 17th of June. All rights to photograph, record and broadcast any part of the competition are reserved by the organizers of the competition. The right for unlimited use of the recorded material is also reserved.

III. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS The duration of the 2nd round performance must not exceed 30 minutes for Junior category and 40 minutes for Senior category. The total time includes pauses between the pieces. All of the pieces have to be performed by heart, except W. A. Mozart sonatas in the 1st round. «Bärenreiter» is the preferred edition for performing works by W. A. Mozart, G. P. Telemann and J. S. Bach. It is up to the participant whether or not to follow the repeat signs. Participants requiring a pianist for the 2nd round and final concert performances are to pay for services of the pianist provided by the competition organizers.

III. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS Program Junior category I Round (video pre-selection) 1. Any etude or caprice. 2. 1st movement of one of the following W. A. Mozart sonatas: - Sonata D-dur, K. 7 - Sonata C-dur, K. 28 - Sonata D-dur, K. 29 - Sonata G-dur No. 18, K. 301/293a - Sonata Es-dur No. 19, K. 302/293b - Sonata D-dur No. 23, K. 306/300l II Round (up to 30 minutes) 1. One of the following baroque period works: - G. P. Telemann one of the 12 fantasies for violin solo, TWV 40:14-25 - J. S. Bach two varied movements from one of the partitas for violin solo, BWV 1002 1004-1006. 2. Virtuoso piece. 3. 1st movement of a 19th-21st century concerto. Program Senior category I Round (video pre-selection) II Round (up to 40 minutes) 1. Any etude or caprice. 2. 1st movement of one of the following W. A. Mozart sonatas: - Sonata G-dur No. 18, K. 301/293a - Sonata Es-dur No. 19, K. 302/293b - Sonata D-dur No. 23, K. 306/300l - Sonata F-dur No. 24, K. 376/374d - Sonata F-dur No. 25 in F major, K. 377/374e - Sonata Es-dur No. 28, K. 380/374f 1. J. S. Bach two varied movements from one of the sonatas or partitas for violin solo, BWV 1001 1006. 2. Virtuoso piece. 3. 1st movement of a 19th-21st century concerto.

Prize from the «Legato» association (Bern / Switzerland) for the best participant from Odessa or Odessa region. A concert at the Odessa Philharmonic Hall during the /19 season.

V. JURY Andrej Bielow head of the jury Stanislav Pronin Aleksey Semenenko Bohdana Pivnenko Andrey Murza. A jury member who is a teacher of a participant has no vote in discussionsconcerning this participant during the preliminary round. The jury reserves the right not to award all prizes, as well as to divide the prizes between participants (except for the first prize). The jury has the right to stop the performance of a participant, if the program is exceeding the time limits. Decisions of the jury are final and not subject to revision. Voting procedure: 1. After the first round, each jury member has to name 12 participants from each age group, who they want to see in the second round. Participants who received the majority of votes are admitted to the second round. In case of a tie, the points (from 1 to 50), which jury members will additionally assign to their 12 selected participants, will be taken into account. 2. The list of the participants admitted to the second round will be signed by all jury members and published on the official website of the competition. The number of points for each participant admitted to the second round remains confidential until the second round is finished. 3. After the second round, all jury members will evaluate the participants on a 50-point scale. In order to make a final decision on the prizewinners, jury members will consider the performances in both rounds of the competition. In case of a tie, points assigned in both rounds will be taken into account. 4. In case of a tie, the vote of the head of the jury is decisive.

The application must be submitted via the competition website www. by 31 March. Applications received after 31 March will not considered. Incomplete applications will not be considered. By submitting the application, an applicant is expressing their full agreement with the rules and regulations of the competition. The application can be completed in English, Ukrainian or Russian and has to include the following documents and materials: 1.Web-link to the video recording of 1st round performance a copy of the applicant s identification document (birth certificate or passport). 2. Artistic biography. 3. Digital colour photographs 4. Copies of laureate diplomas and/or certificates from international competitions. Video recording requirements: 1. The video recording has to be posted on www.youtube.com, be set to «public» or «unlisted», and be available until the results of the first round are announced. Making the video unavailable before the results of the first round are announced will automatically disqualify the participant. 2. The pieces can be recorded separately. 3. The video has to be shot on a still camera and display the musician in their full height. 4. There may not be any titles or logos related to concert agencies, festivals or competitions whatsoever. 5. Video recordings with unsatisfactory picture and/or sound quality will not be considered.
