A2 Level Music 2016/2017 Listening Diary Name:

Unit 6 of your A2 Music exam requires you to listen to recordings of a variety of musical extracts. In addition to the practice you will do in class it would be very beneficial for you to do some music listening outside of class time. This booklet is to be used every time you sit down to deliberately listen to a piece of music and think about its musical features, not just listening to the radio whilst reading a magazine! Try to listen to a wide of styles, think about: Is it major or minor? What is the shape of the melody? What is the texture? What instruments are being used? What is the metre? What is the general structure? What cadences can you hear?
