Ensemble and principals who do not do much dancing will be able to go after the first 45 minutes to an hour. Audition Requirements: Auditions are by appointment only Prepare TWO contrasting songs (32 bars or approximately 1 minute only of each) that present your range and characterisation in the style of the show. Please choose an appropriate starting point in your song as you may not be required to sing the full song. Also, your second song may not be required; but please make sure that you re ready to sing it as necessary. You may prepare ONE song from the show. Please note this is not additional, or necessary. ALL song choices should be from Musical Theatre post 2000. Piano accompaniment is provided. Own accompanist is permitted. Bring sheet music in your key. Digital backing tracks with an accompaniment only track also are acceptable, provided they are edited and cued correctly. Please do not rely on downloading a Youtube or similar track at the venue. You will be given a few minutes with the accompanist to review your music at your audition Please ensure your sheet music is clear and legible, and marked with specific cuts, repeat marks and instructions clearly highlighted and is in the correct key. No transposition will be done. Music should be taped together in correct order or presented in a non glare display folder so there is no ambiguity or chance of pages in the wrong order, or falling off the music stand. Part of your audition may involve range extension and vocal testing. No unaccompanied auditions will be accepted. Sheet music is available online at http://www.musicnotes.com for a small charge and can easily be printed via this website. Audition Preparation Acting You will be asked to read from the script. Copies will be available for perusal at the venue. Audition Preparation Dance and Movement All auditionees will be required to learn a short dance/movement combination on Saturday. Please wear appropriate clothing (that shows body shape) and footwear, Jazz shoes, Jazz boots or runners. Ladies are asked to bring Chorus heels. Specialty Dancers will be taught an additional routine to perform in groups for the Panel. Rehearsals Rehearsals commence on Wednesday, 25 July at 7.00 p.m. Rehearsals are held on Monday, Wednesday evenings 7:00pm 10:00pm and Sunday afternoons from 1.00 p.m. 5 p.m. Dancers and/or Principals may be called from 11.00 a.m. on Sundays. Additional Rehearsals can be called by mutual agreement amongst cast members. Attendance at rehearsals is a commitment associated with being accepted into the cast of the show. Sitzprobe Compulsory Sitzprobe is scheduled for Sunday, 7 October from 9.00 a.m. Bump in/theatre Rehearsals/Bump out Cast will be expected to be involved in Bump in and the theatre rehearsals leading up to performances and to help take down the show after the final performance. Membership/Production Fee Those selected to be in the cast of Legally Blonde will be required to become financial members of Queensland Musical Theatre. Character Descriptions and Vocal Ranges Elle Woods (Gb3 G5 Strong Belt/Mix) Elle is a very bubbly college age girl who follows her exboyfriend to Harvard Law School and realizes that she has more than just a pretty face and a bubbly personality to offer the world! She is very lovable, determined, vulnerable, energetic and outgoing! A true triple threat, tap dance skills are a plus. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be comfortable with dogs, must be willing to be/become blonde! Emmett Forrest (B2 A4 Chest) Emmett is a smart, quirky, sensitive and personable law student. He ends up taking Elle under his wing and believes in her when it seems that no one else does. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be comfortable with dogs. A strong singer/actor with great comedic timing! Paulette Buonofuonte (G#3 A5 Strong Mix) Paulette is the funny owner of Hair Affair, a local salon. She becomes friends with Elle and longs to marry a man from Ireland. She and Elle help each other achieve their dreams! Must be comfortable with dogs, must be willing to be kissed on stage. A Bostonian accent is a plus, a strong singer with a powerful belt to match the personality! Pilar, Margot, Serena (F3 E4 Belt to C5) Pilar is the sassy and sensible sorority sister. Margot is the seemingly dim witted, boy crazy sorority sister. Serena is the energetic cheerleader, from Jewish heritage, sorority sister. Margot, Serena, & Pilar are Elle's entourage who follow her through the story acting as her Greek Chorus. Strong singers and dancers with good comic timing and youthful energy! Professor Callahan (A2 F#4 Chest) Callahan is a pompous and manipulative law professor at Harvard. Actor must be comfortable with a stage kiss. Callahan should be charismatic but able to turn instantly into a conniving shark at the turn of a hat. Warner Huntington III (Eb3 Ab4) Warner is attractive and charming but very self absorbed. He will do whatever it takes to achieve his dream of becoming a senator, including breaking Elle s heart. Actor must be willing to perform a stage kiss, and very comfortable on stage to best display the characters charisma! Vivienne Kensington (A3 Ab5 Strong Mix) Vivienne is an overachieving, stuck up, wealthy, smart and savvy law student who is intellectually driven. Yet she feels very threatened by Elle's presence at Harvard. Must be comfortable being kissed on stage, must be willing to be/become a brunette. Powerful solo in Act II! Brooke Wyndham (A3 G5 Strong Mix) Brooke is an exercise video star and former Delta Nu sorority girl who was accused of murder. Being physically fit is a must for this role, to properly do high level aerobics with enough stamina to continue singing. If you are auditioning for this role, be prepared to jump rope while singing at your audition! Whipped into Shape Kyle B. O'Boyle (no vocal requirement) Kyle is a physically fit, smooth talking UPS deliveryman. We soon find out that he is Paulette's dream guy. Actor will play another role in Act I. Must be comfortable with dogs, must be willing to be kissed on stage. Irish dancing skills are a plus! Enid Hoops (A3 F4 Strong Mix) Enid is a strong, opinionated, feminist law student at Harvard.
