RCA-1 Eglish 2. Safety istructios Mechaical hazards Cut wires ca have sharp eds ad ca cause serious ijuries. Watch out for sharp edges whe you pick up the PCB. Visibly damaged parts ca cause upredictable dager. Do ot use damaged parts: recycle ad replace them with ew oes. Electrical hazards Touchig powered, live compoets, touchig coductig compoets which are live due to malfuctio, short circuits ad coectig the circuit to aother voltage tha specified, impermissibly high humidity ad codesatio build up ca cause serious ijury due to electrical shock. Take the followig precautios to prevet this dager: Never perform wirig o a powered module. Moutig the device should oly be doe i closed, clea, dry rooms. Beware of humidity. Oly use low power for this module as described i this maual ad oly use certified trasformers. Coect trasformers oly i approved mais sockets istalled by a authorised electricia. Observe cable diameter requiremets. After codesatio build up, allow a miimum of 2 hours for dispersio. Use oly origial spare parts if you have to repair the kit or the ready-built module. Page 5

Eglish RCA-1 3. Backgroud iformatio: RailCom Feedback with RailCom RailCom is a stadard for bi-directioal commuicatio i digital model railway layouts cotrolled i DCC-format. It allows e.g. the feedback of the address ad the CV values from RailCom decoders to the digital cotrol uit or to special receivers (so-called detectors). To trasfer the RailCom messages special RailCom boosters supplyig the so-called RailCom cutout have to be used. Data trasfer betwee RailCom compoets The RailCom stadard is the basis of the commuicatio betwee RailCom compatible decoders ad RailCom detectors, which allows you to use detectors ad decoders of differet maufacturers together. O the other had, a maufacturer specific data bus is used to commuicate betwee detectors, display devices ad PC iterfaces. That is the reaso why the use of detectors, display devices ad PC iterfaces of oe maufacturer is madatory. The data bus used by Tams for the commuicatio betwee detectors, display devices ad PC iterfaces allows you to cotrol up to 24 separate track sectios ad to coect up to 32 RailCom devices (detectors RCD-1, RCD-2 or RCD-8, display devices RCA-1 or RCA-24, PC iterfaces RC-Lik). I order to assig the detectors, display devices ad PC iterfaces to each other, they get addresses betwee 1 ad 24. Page 6

RCA-1 Eglish Example for the data trasfer i the Tams specific data bus There are five differet detectors coected to the data bus, all together cotrollig 13 separate track sectios. I order to display ad exploit the data there are used: four sigle display devices RCA-1 displayig the data from oe sectio each, oe 24-fold display device RCA-24, displayig the data from all 13 track sectios, oe RailCom PC iterface RC-Lik. Bus lie For techical reasos, there are two wires with a diameter of miimum 0,10 mm² madatory as a bus lie for the commuicatio betwee detectors, display devices ad PC iterfaces (lies A ad B). I order to miimise the vulerability towards disturbaces from other cables, the two wires should be twisted. It is recommeded to use twi wire (e.g. LiYz, 2x0,19 mm², red-brow, item o. 73-30037) The bus lie has to be looped through from oe to the other device. Whe coectig them the lies A ad B always have to be assiged to the correspodig coectio poits A ad B of the devices. Page 7

Eglish RCA-1 4. Operatig mode of the RCA-1 The RailCom display device RCA-1 ca show RailCom feedback sigals from oe assiged rail sectio cotrolled by a local detector. The followig detectors ar suitable for the operatio with the RCA-1: sigle RailCom detector RCD-1 (Art.-Nr. 45-0101x); 2-fold RailCom detector RCD-2 (Art.-Nr. 45-0102x); 8-fold RailCom detector RCD-8 (Art.-Nr. 45-0108x). The RCA-1 displays the data of the vehicle decoder i the rail sectio cotrolled by the assiged detector. As a stadard the vehicle decoder s address is displayed as log as the vehicle is i the cotrolled sectio. Whe set accordigly, the RCA-1 also displays the rerailig directio i combiatio with the address (with 2-rail-systems). Whe a readig out commad has bee set, the value of the read out CV is displayed for a short time. The RCA-1 also displays a locomotive or aother load (e.g. a lighted carriage) i the rail sectio that has o RailCom-compatible decoder, provided that the assiged RailCom detector is able to detect loads ot sedig a RailCom sigal. I case more tha oe vehicle decoder is sedig RailCom messages i oe sectio, the followig displays are possible: There is displayed the messages from oe vehicle decoder oly. The messages of the vehicle decoders i the sectio are displayed alteratigly. A faulty message is displayed. Page 8

RCA-1 Eglish 5. Techical specificatios Attetio: The RCA-1 should ot be supplied by a trasformer used to supply the digital cotrol!
