What is Chatterbooks Week? At Explore York Library we had a drop i sessio. Over 20 childre came ad it was brilliat; some brought their most favourite poems ad i the sessio they wrote their ow collaboratively ad there was a lot of humour! All the regular Chatterbooks group atteded ad ew childre too. Rachel Be, Explore York Chatterbooks Week is a celebratio of childre s readig clubs. Libraries ad schools ca use Chatterbooks Week to lauch ew readig clubs for the school year. You ca ru taster sessios or special evets to showcase the fu activities that happe i Chatterbooks. Chatterbooks Impact o childre s readig There has bee a massive icrease i egagemet with books, with cofidece aroud speakig about books ad their arrative, ad a great icrease i comprehesio. Susa Davies, Head of Literacy, Pakema Primary School After takig part i our Chatterbooks programme i 2016, childre read more frequetly, had more positive attitudes towards readig, ad used libraries more. The report ito The Impact of Chatterbooks o Childre s Readig Ejoymet, Behaviours ad Attitudes 1 foud: There was a 22% icrease i the umber of childre readig daily after takig part i Chatterbooks: from 36% to 44% Childre s perceptios of their readig ability improved as well, with 49% feelig that they are very good readers after takig part compared with 41% before 9 i 10 club leaders believe that as a result of the project, childre ejoy readig more ad have become more ethusiastic about readig. Excited?... Are there thigs i the picture which make you laugh? How does the picture fit with the words/story? Does the picture add to the story ad tell you more thigs?
