1. Objective To provide a platform for young musicians to perform in public and receive constructive feedback from international and local adjudicators. To raise the musical standards within the country and region and to create awareness of classical piano music among the general public. 2. Eligibility Open to pianists up to the age of 29 from any country. Four age categories: Junior 10 years and below (born in or after July 2006) Intermediate 15 years and below (born in or after July 2001) Senior 18 years and below (born in or after July 1998) Young Artist 29 years and below (born in or after July 1987) 3. Awards Certificates indicating Gold, Silver, Bronze and Encouragement will be awarded. (i) Gold Certificate 85 marks or above (ii) Silver Certificate 70 84 marks (iii) Bronze Certificate 55 69 marks (iv) Encouragement Certificate 54 marks or below Special prizes will be awarded to the highest scoring Gold Certificate winners of each category. The highest-scoring Gold Certificate winner of Young Artist Category will be invited to interview for*: (i) Principal scholarship awarded by SEGI College Subang Jaya (SEGI Group of University & Colleges), Malaysia. A scholarship prize constituting 75% off yearly tuition fees for 3-year Diploma in Music study at SEGI College Subang Jaya. (ii) Royal Irish Academy of Music International Scholar awarded by Royal Irish Academy of Music, Ireland. A scholarship prize offering the opportunity to study at under-graduate or post-graduate level at RIAM, with a 50% scholarship towards tuition fees, opportunities of masterclass and concert performances and one return flight to Ireland from the winner s home country (to a maximum of 1000Euro). * These offers remain conditional subject to meet all the academic and music entry requirement. 3

5. Repertoire requirement Only works from the classical repertoire (e.g. Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20 th Century) originally written for the piano may be selected. Any piano transcriptions or arrangements on original work are subject to approval by the panels. Playing from memory may enhance a performance, although this is not compulsory. Participants must adhere closely to the given performance time limits of each category, otherwise will face disqualification. Junior: 4-8 minutes 1. Any one of the Practical Exercises for Beginners Op. 599 by Carl Czerny or Easy and Progressive Studies Op.100 by Friedrich Burgmüller. 2. Own selections of one or two contrasting piano works Intermediate: 8-10 minutes 1. Any one of the Études de Mécanisme Op.849 by Carl Czerny or Études, Op.109 by Friedrich Burgmüller. 2. Own selections of one or two contrasting piano works Senior: 10-15 minutes 1. Any one of the School of Velocity Op.299 by Carl Czerny or Fifty Studies for Piano by Johann Baptist Cramer. 2. Own selection of two or three contrasting piano works Young Artist: 15-20 minutes 1. Any one Étude by Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninov, Scriabin or Debussy 2. Adjudicators Piano Concert: 30 th July 2016, 7:30PM * Entry tickets for Adjudicators concert will be available for purchase at the registration counter on the competition day. Public Piano Masterclass given by Adjudicators: 31 st July 2016, 10:00AM *Masterclass application is open to the public and competition participants. * Entry tickets for Masterclass will be available for booking at the registration counter on the competition day. Prize Winners s Concert and Award Ceremony: 31 st July 2016, 3:00PM * It is advisable for all participants to attend Award Ceremony and Prize Winners Concert which will be held at the same venue on the next day after Competition. *Prize winners name list will be announced at the conclusion of the competition day. *The highest scoring participants from each category must be available to perform a piece from their chosen programme in the Prize Winners Concert. 7. General Rules of Competition On both audition day and competition day, all participants are required to report to the registration counter at least 60 minutes before the assigned playing time. Participants who are late may be disqualified from the competition, with no refund given. All participants are expected to dress in appropriate concert attire. The following attire is unacceptable: dress shorter than knee level, jeans, sneakers, shorts, t-shirts, and open-toe shoes. Facilities will be available on the day of the competition for participants to warm up for a limited duration of 10 minutes before the assigned competition playing time. If you wish to have longer practice time, please contact local music schools for piano room rental in advance. Participants are required to bring their own music scores, if they are not playing from memory during the competition. The competition is open to the public, however, children under three years of age are not allowed to enter the hall. Each participant will receive ONE complimentary pass upon registration. Additional passes can be purchased from the Registration Desk at RM30 each. 7
The adjudicator panel may choose to hear only parts of the program and ask the participant to perform any section of the pieces offered, not necessarily from the beginning. During the Live Audition, the jury may choose to hear only parts of the programme and ask the participant to perform any section of the pieces offered, not necessarily from the beginning. The Jury reserves the right to stop a performance should it exceed the stipulated time limits. The Jury's decision is final and no discussion or correspondence will be entertained. The organisers have unrestricted rights to film, broadcast, photograph and record any part of the competition. The participant agrees that he/she waives any claim whatsoever to any financial reward arising from the distribution or use of any format or media. All forms of photograph, audio or video recording during the performance of competition by participants or families/friends of participants are strictly prohibited. Participants may download videos or photos from the Facebook page (Kingsburg International Piano Competition) for personal collection after the event. 8. Video Uploading Procedures (for participants who opt for Video Audition) Participants who opt for a Video Audition will be required to submit a high-quality video of their performance by uploading it to www.youtube.com by 30 th June 2016, 12:00PM (Malaysia time). ---- see instructions on uploading videos to YouTube below. Instructions for Uploading Videos to YouTube 1. If you do not already have an account on YouTube, you will need to create one. 2. Please upload separate video for each piece in your programme. 3. Your videos must be unedited and contain no fade in or fade outs. 4. Your videos must be of acceptable visual and audio quality. 8
