A MUSIC FESTIVAL FOR PEACE SEPT 1 22, 2018 ATLANTA PIANOS FOR PEACE FESTIVAL RETURNS TO ATLANTA SEPTEMBER 1 st TO 22 nd, MARKING ONE OF THE LARGEST PUBLIC ART DISPLAY PROJECTS IN THE CITY ALL PIANOS FOR PEACE TO BE DONATED TO ATLANTA PUBLIC SCHOOLS, NURSING HOMES, HEALTHCARE FACILITIES, AND COMMUNITY CENTERS IN NEED FREE PIANOS FOR PEACE APP WILL DIRECT ATLANTANS AND VISITORS TO PLAY AND ENJOY THE PIANOS AT OUTDOOR LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT METRO ATLANTA ATLANTA August 7, 2018 - Pianos For Peace will launch its annual outdoor festival and community arts program with a public unveiling of beautifully painted pianos on Saturday September 1, 2018 all over greater Atlanta, making the arts accessible to all. The collection of colorful pianos has been beautifully hand-painted by local and international volunteer artists in groundbreaking collaborations with the Fulton County Arts & Culture, Atlanta Public Schools, and the City of Atlanta. After the outdoor festival, all painted pianos will be donated to local schools, nursing homes, healthcare facilities and community centers where our volunteer artists will participate in yearlong meaningful programs making art accessible to all. Our Ambassadors for Peace will unite and transform communities by building peace through music and education. As one of the largest public art display projects in Atlanta, Pianos for Peace will impact an estimated half a million Atlantans and visitors this year. The event will feature local musicians, artists, photographers, filmmakers, students and a number of well-known celebrities, all of who have volunteered their time and talent for this project. The public will have a chance to see, play and enjoy all Pianos For Peace between September 1 st and 22 nd when they will be on display in public parks and high-traffic locations throughout metro Atlanta for everyone to play and anyone to enjoy. Pianos for Peace locations include strategic partners and Ambassadors for Peace such as MARTA, Atlanta Beltline, Fulton County Arts & Culture, The King Center, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Fulton Public Library, Center for Civil and Human Rights, Piedmont Park, Fox Theatre, Underground Atlanta, Rialto Center for the Arts at GSU, and campuses of Georgia Tech, Spelman College, Emory, Georgia State University, and many others. International Day of Peace Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Pianos for Peace will celebrate International Day of Peace on Friday, September 21 by featuring five colorful pianos throughout the Atlanta Beltline in conjunction with the annual Lantern Parade as well as 10 painted pianos in different MARTA stations throughout metro Atlanta. The closing ceremony, featuring local musicians and children s choir and band from selected Atlanta Public Schools, will be held also on September 21, 2018 in the Atrium of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Atlanta Public Schools This year, Pianos for Peace will expand its collaboration with both Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Atlanta Public Schools on two year-round programs: Arts Education and Music Therapy. This unique and meaningful partnership will positively impact students and engage them in the arts. The board of directors for Pianos for Peace selected to honor Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Meria Joel Carstarphen with the 2018 Ambassador for Peace Award for her commitment to the arts and music in our local schools. Fulton County Arts and Culture Pianos for Peace expands their landmark partnership with Fulton County Arts and Culture at all five community arts centers throughout Fulton County in two key arts programs that engaged and impacted local artists and the communities supporting each art center. Fulton County Arts and Culture established a competition for local artists to submit their design ideas for Pianos for Peace. In addition, each art center has designated a community piano that will be deigned and painted by faculty, staff and children of the community. Free Pianos for Peace App The Pianos for Peace will be on public display for everyone and anyone to enjoy throughout metro Atlanta locations such as Atlanta Beltline, The King Center, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Fulton Public Library, MARTA stations, Rialto Center for the Arts at GSU, Piedmont Park, and Georgia Tech among others. Pianos for Peace is using technology to enhance arts engagement via the app, which will allow people to explore, visit and play all painted pianos throughout metro Atlanta. The free Pianos for Peace App is available to download for both iphone and Android. The app maximizes people s interaction with all Pianos for Peace, creating new opportunities for social engagement around the artist-designed instruments. Each piano has its own page in the app, which includes photos, location details, the artist s bio and design. The app enables users to explore the latest social buzz about the pianos, schedule their own pop-up concerts on individual pianos at any of the outdoor locations, alert their friends and fans about upcoming events, and compete to win Pianos for Peace prizes including a chance for one lucky musician to perform live at Carnegie Hall with Pianos for Peace founder, composer and pianist Malek Jandali.
