2016 APF Solo Piano Competition Information and Application

Transcription:

Fall 2015 Dear Singer/ Pianist: Thank you for your interest in the Art Song Festival at Baldwin Wallace University. Enclosed is the application form for the 2016 Festival. The deadline for the application is February 5, 2016. The Art Song Festival takes place for one week every other spring. The focus of the week is on the collaborative aspect of art song performance and ten singer-pianist teams are chosen to participate. Ten teams are chosen through national auditions, and the winners come to Berea for a week of intensive exposure to the highest standards of performance in this extraordinarily rewarding repertoire. Four major guest artists offer master classes and recitals throughout the week, which then culminates in a recital by the participants on the final night of the Festival. In addition, there is a guest lecturer that presents material concerning the art song literature and recitalists. This year s scheduled guest artists are baritone Edwin Crossley-Mercer with pianist Jason Paul Peterson, mezzo-soprano Susan Graham with pianist Bradley Moore and tenor Eduardo Valdes (lecturer and master class clinician). The Art Song Festival is unique because of its emphasis on singer-pianist collaboration. The Festival brings international concert artists, singers and pianists to Baldwin Wallace University in order to provide the public with the opportunity to hear world renowned artists and to enable talented young singers and pianists to work on an intensive level with the guest artists involved. Participants are chosen as a team and in the master classes they have the opportunity to work with both the featured guest singers and pianists during the course of the Festival. All Festival events are open to the public. We look forward to hearing from you. Please let us know if you have any questions. ALL COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL RECEIVE AN AUDITION TIME. Sincerely, Dr. Joanne Uniatowski Executive Director Art Song Festival

INSTRUCTIONS 1. A non-refundable application fee of $80.00 must be included with this application. Checks should be made out to Art Song Festival at Baldwin Wallace University. No application will be processed without the $80.00 fee. NOTE: the $80.00 fee is for each singer/pianist TEAM ($40.00 per person). 2. The singer and pianist must apply, audition, and be prepared to participate in the entire Festival as a team. Applications will be accepted from teams only. No application will be accepted from a singer or pianist alone. Applicants who will not be available for the entire length of the Festival should not apply. 3. Applicants, whether singers or pianists, must be at least 21 years old as of May 23, 2016. 4. The deadline for receipt of all application materials is February 5, 2016. Four of these should be art songs of special interest to the pianist in your team. All teams will perform on the Participants Recital at the end of the week. Repertoire to be performed in the final recital will be chosen from songs worked on in the Master Classes. Please note that Festival Participants will be notified by March 10, 2016. If chosen, the participants will then need to have repertoire set by April 10, 2016. Repertoire will be discussed between the ten teams and the Artistic Director of the Festival. Translations will be submitted by e-mail in a specific format. 6. The Art Song Festival is not able to provide housing, meals, or transportation for participants.
