2013 July 9 th July 20 th This summer, we will offer two very different camps and make some very exciting changes from last year. Our first Camp Hollywood will be our traditional 12 day camp culminating in the production of a short film. However, we have an all new curriculum specifically designed to help young actors prepare for their first big job on set. Our second Camp Hollywood will be a new addition: Build-a-Film, a 7 day camp where participants will not only act in the film, but do everything from develop the script, learn production techniques and get a chance to do everything on set from co-direct, to edit the final footage. We will, of course, provide training and on-set mentors for all of these jobs, so you don t need any prior production experience. Just bring your passion and creativity and we ll help you do the rest. We have also made a change to our camp venue. In order to better control our environment, all classes and activities will take place on the campus of a lovely private school in Burbank, Brighton Hall School, where we will have exclusive access to a private campus with several classrooms, a cafeteria, a gymnasium and outdoor picnic area. This will be especially productive during our second camp, where the use of the school s classrooms will allow us to teach in a perfect setting. Finally, we ve made some significant changes to our pricing. While we feel that the Camp Hollywood experience is priceless, we also understand that the cost has been a challenge for many of our campers. By moving the camp to Brighton Hall, we have reduced expenses associated with the high markups of hotel meeting rooms and meals, and we have removed the hotel stay requirement from our pricing structure. We will still make the Burbank Airport Marriott available at our group rate of $159 per night, but you can choose to stay elsewhere at your convenience. We hope you are as excited about this summer s Camp Hollywood events as we are, and that some of you may even want to attend both camps. We are also planning a number of very exciting additional events like casting director workshops, parents business of acting workshops and many others, to coincide with our camps. Camp One: Tuesday, July 9 th Saturday, July 20 th This year s 12-day Camp Hollywood, will be better than ever. Our two week program is designed to give young aspiring actors and their families the tools, experiences, connections and exposure they need to help launch or further their careers and hone their craft, and in week two we will film an original short film which will allow you to get great footage for your reel.
Our On-Camera Intensive Acting Basics Program uses clips from our previous Camp Hollywood films and classic TV shows to highlight specific acting exercises and scene assignments performed for the camera. We focus on techniques like learning to develop a memorable character through physicality, voice and point of view, how to use revelations and discoveries on the 4 th wall to set place, dynamic entrances and exits, finding the magic rectangle for convincing eyelines, comic 180 s and intentional misdirections. We will also cast and begin rehearsals for our production week where we will help students get a reel as they shoot an original short film on location with a Hollywood director and professional production crew. Please view our past films at http://vimeopro.com/johndaquino/camphollywood. Last Day: SHOWCASE SCREENING - On the last day of camp, we will screen a preliminary edit of the film in front of an audience of Agents, Managers, Casting Directors and other industry professionals who will give specific feedback on your child s performance and help assess their readiness to audition and compete in Hollywood. REQUIREMENTS In order to best serve the needs of all participants, we will be enforcing a strict pre-registration policy and require the following items so that we can prepare scenes, assign correct group leaders and ultimately cast the scenes for filming appropriately. You must preregister for this event online at http://www.johndaquino.net/ where you will be given a user name and password and be asked to provide all necessary details on your child. NO PAPER REGISTRATIONS WILL BE PERMITTED. Terms and Conditions Housing: Out of town participants are no longer required to stay at the Burbank Airport Marriott. While the camp tuition does not include hotel or travel costs: we have negotiated a special event rate of $159 per night + tax. Supervision: Though we are called Camp Hollywood, we are not a camp in the traditional sense. We provide supervision, however the ratio of teachers to students is not designed to offer supervision required by our youngest students so you may be required to provide supervision for your child if they are too young or unable to stay focused and self-motivated during breaks, small group rehearsals or during filming. Qualifications: Due the intensive nature of the schedule, a child must be a strong enough reader to handle learning and memorizing new scripts quickly and be prepared emotionally to do a performance for some very prominent industry professionals after only a few days. If you feel they will thrive under these conditions, we welcome them. If you are not sure, perhaps a few classes beforehand would be a good idea to see if the program is appropriate. If you are not sure, please ask so we can discuss it with you before registration. Cancellations/ Transfers: Because we limit the number of spots available, we cannot complete your registration and hold a spot for you without payment of a 50% deposit.
