2018 Daniel Mieloch, Vice President Dear Orchestra Director, Please find the audition registration details, registration form, ensemble policies, and scheduling information for the 2018 St. Louis Metro District #8 Honors Orchestra attached below. Auditions for violin, viola, cello, and bass players are open to any high school student in the Metro District #8 grades 9 through 12, and will also serve as seating auditions. The audition date is Friday, October 5, 2018; fees are $12 per student. Please note that there will be no on-site audition registration. All students must be pre-registered online, following the instructions below by midnight on Friday, September 21 st. Please understand that no late registrations will be accepted. Also note that students may participate in both Metro District 8 Honor Choir and Orchestra, as there are no conflicting rehearsal or performance dates. Director Registration Instructions: Distribute the registration form and attendance policy to interested students. Set a specific return date allowing ample time to register students. Collect completed registration forms and the $12 audition fee (or speak with your activities director about the audition fees) from each student. Policy Summary Only students in grades 9 through 12 may audition for the orchestra. All students wishing to participate in this orchestra must complete an audition. There are no exceptions to this rule. All selected participants must be in attendance for every minute of all scheduled rehearsals to be allowed to perform at the final concert. Participants must report on time and will not be allowed to leave early from any rehearsals. Failure to abide by this rule will result in the student s removal from the orchestra (an exception may be made in the event of an emergency with the final decision made by the Orchestra Vice President.) Music directors or a designated building representative must be in attendance with their student(s) for the entirety of the audition and rehearsal dates as per MSHSAA. Audition times will be assigned on a first come first served basis. If a specific time frame is needed, please specify your requested time when registering online. When auditioning, make sure students observe the tempo markings given on the audition material. Honors Ensemble Student Attendance Policy Rehearsals and Performance (Revised August 2010) 1. Student participating shall meet the eligibility standards set forth by the Missouri State High School Activity Association By-law 200 - General Student Eligibility Standards. 2. Student must be a member of his/her school s performing ensemble, if one exists, during the semester in which the Honors ensemble performance occurs. 3. Students selected to an Honor ensemble must be present for every minute of every scheduled rehearsal. Dates of the event are published in advance and should be checked in advance before student auditions for the Honors ensemble. (If an exception should be granted, it must be cleared in advance through the ensemble Vice-President.) 4. Consequences for not meeting these requirements will be dismissal from the ensemble and/or disqualification from all-state eligibility. 5. Students participating in Honors ensembles shall be supervised by their director, faculty member or administrator of the school involved, who is present for every minute of every rehearsal/performance. (It is no longer acceptable for one faculty/administrator from one school in a multiple high school district to supervise all students of all schools of the multiple high school districts - MSHSAA by-law 103.0). 6. Consequences for directors/schools not meeting these requirements will be probationary status for the school the following year. The School Administration and MSHSAA will receive notice of the dereliction of duty. If these requirements are not met during the probationary year, all students from the school will be ineligible to audition the following year.
