2 PAGE 2 S.C.S. PLAYERS From the Director: Matt Sheehy Hello Ladies! I look forward to seeing you audition for S M on February 8 & 9th. Bring a southern accent and your wit with you because this is a play with a lot of laughs, a big heart and a southern (Louisiana to be exact) location. Plan on reading at least twice when you audition (and maybe more). I hope to have a great turn out with new and old faces alike (remember, character ages run from 19 to 60+, so there is room for everyone at Truvy s Beauty Shop). Rehearsals will begin in earnest on February 20th and run through May 10. Performance dates are May 13, 14 19 and 20, so there is plenty of time for you to learn the lines, master your blocking, develop your character and deliver a great performance. 3 VOLUME 57, ISSUE 3 PAGE 3 From the President, Matthew Sheehy Hello Everyone, First let me thank everyone who came out to the January 8th Social event at Ms. Mary s and Pete Too restaurant on Gratiot Avenue (as suggested by SCSP Vice President Karen Drum). We had a great turn out and a whole lot of fun. Speaking of Social events, we don t normally do two in a row, but this years we are let s see if we can get as good (or BETTER!) turn out for the SCSP Annual Red Party on Sunday, February 12th. This time around our newsletter editor, Linda Neuwirth, has suggested we go to The Golden Chopsticks on Jefferson Ave. in St. Clair Shores. After giving this some thought, I think it s a pretty good idea, after all, in the Chinese culture the color red is seen as a symbol of joy and good fortune and I d really like to finish out our 2016 2017 with a heaping helping of both. So, put on your red and plan to attend next Sunday (an evite will be send shortly, please RSVP). Spring 2017 STEEL MAGNOLIAS By Robert Harling Directed by Matthew Sheehy Synopsis: The action is set in Truvy s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana, where all the ladies who are anybody come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town s rich curmudgeon, uiser, ( I m not crazy, I ve just been in a bad mood for forty years ), an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth, and the local social leader, M Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest girl in town), is about to marry a good ole boy. Filled with hilarious repartee and not a few acerbic but humorously revealing verbal collisions. The play has an underlying strength-and love-which gives it, and it s characters, the special quality to make them truly toughing, funny, and marvelously amiable company in good times and bad. A real winner! Audition Dates: February 8 & 9, 2017 Performance Dates: May 12, & 13, 19, & 20, 2017 Hope to see you for the auditions!
