THE TRADE, TECHNICAL, & PROGRAMMING CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF ELIGIBILITY All entries must have been produced & / or aired between 1 September 2009 to 31 August. Last Date of Submission of entries 10th September. THE TRADE AWARDS TR 1 - Cable operator /MSO (Multi Systems Operator ) The Multi System Operator which has consistently provided optimum service all through the year and even provided value added services to either other cable operators or subscribers. Size is of no consequence but the cable operator should be serving a sizeable subscriber base to be labeled an MSO. TR 2 - TV Production House The production house of the year is a company that has set new standards of management and excellence in terms of number of hours produced, its dealings with artistes, suppliers & customers, the number of genres, the channels it is working with and consistency in producing good, successful shows. THE TECHNICAL AWARDS TC 1 - Special/Visual Effects for Television The individual or team from a production house/post production house that has created the most outstanding, innovative visual/special effects for a television show/serial and in the process set new standards. The use of technology in a cost-effective manner to enhance the visual appeal and originality will be given weightage. TC 2 - Art Direction (Fiction) The individual/company who/which has been behind the look and feel of a television show. He/She should have excelled in creating the right and authentic ambience for the show with the use of locations, sets, props, lighting, furniture etc. TC 3 - Art Direction (Non - Fiction) The individual/company who/which has been behind the look and feel of a television show/genre. He/She / The Company should have excelled in creating the right and authentic ambience for the show with the use of locations, sets, props, lighting, and furniture. TC 4 - Videography (Best TV Cameraman - Fiction) The professional who made his camera talk and describe the Fiction show as written by the writer or desired by the director, bringing out in detail the emotion, action or enhancing the look of the sets and thus the scenes; in effect making for eye-riveting fare. Innovation in the use of his tool - the camera - will be considered an asset. TC 5 - Videography (Best TV Cameraman - Non Fiction) The professional who made his camera / Multi Camera Set up talk and describe the Non Fiction show as written by the writer or desired by the director, bringing out in detail the emotion, action or enhancing the look of the sets and thus the scenes; in effect making for eyeriveting fare. TC 6 - Costumes for a TV Programme The individual/company which has provided the most appropriate or original or trendsetting costumes/clothes for any television show/serial to give the show an authentic or outstanding look. In some cases the Make-up Artist has also the additional responsibilities of looking at the hair styling of actors. TC 8 - Stylist Awarded to a person responsible for the styling of a television show / serial; a person responsible for the look of each and every individual appearing on screen during the show which makes the entire show looks presentable. TC 9 - TV Show Packaging (Fiction) TV Show Packaging would include quality titling, opening, break bumpers, sequencing, music, closing credits, beside the overall look and feel. TC 10 - TV Show Packaging (Non Fiction) Same as TC-6, excepting it is for a non-fiction show. TC 11 - TV Channel Packaging (Including Channel Ids & Generic Promos) The award will go to a channel that stands out on account of its classy look, courtesy its packaging, channel IDs, the jingle, V/Os, generic channel promos, and the overall look and feel of the channel. TC 12 - Editor (Fiction) This award will be given to a team or individual. All fictional programs whether single or multi episodic qualify for this award. TC 13 - Editor (Non Fiction) This award will be given to a team or individual. All Non Fictional programs including Game shows, reality shows etc. whether single or multi episodic qualify for this award. TC 14 - Background Music (Fiction) This award will be given for background music for a single episode of a regular series or for a special, whether it be variety, music or cultural programming. Only the music composer/director is eligible and best background music score excludes the award for music for the best title song. It is the responsibility of the music director who does the background music to bring the program into a unified whole by making or supervising the following: composing, transitions, themes, arranging original or pre-existing material for the given orchestra or band or electronically, rehearsing the performers and overseeing music that needs to be pre-recorded. TC 15 - TV Lyricist The individual (male or female) who has provided the lyrics for a title song/ song for a television show/series/event. The lyrics should have lent - along with the music composition - to the title song/song becoming hummable in most homes. TC 16 - Music Director The music director is the individual/team who wrote/composed the music for the title song and set the tone for a show/event/continuing show. The song should have exploited every bit of range his/her voice is capable of. Additionally, the song should have become popular - as Hindi film songs do - with audiences and served as a signature, getting identified with the TV show itself, so much so that viewers actually wanted to listen to it in the background of their daily work. TC 18 - Director (Soap & Drama) The individual whose work for a Soap / Drama Series stands out because of the treatment of subject/situations, who managed to get the best out of his/her actors, the cameraman, the music director, the editor and managed to create a TV show that became highly popular. TC 19 - Director (Sitcom) Same as TC18, excepting the genre is Sitcom. TC 20 - Director (Thriller) Same as TC18, excepting the genre is Thriller. TC 21 - Director (Non-Fiction) Same as TC18, excepting the genre is Non-Fiction. TC 22 - Screenplay Writer (Drama Series & Soap) The screenplay writer whose powerful screenplay compliments the story and helps the director & dialogue writer create a gripping and popular Drama Series / Soap. TC 23 - Dialogue Writer (Drama Series & Soap) The dialogue writer whose use of dialogue gave more authenticity to characters, apart from raising the drama levels in the soap. TC 24 - Sitcom/Comedy Writer An individual or a team who/which worked on a script that had enough situations, punch lines, and humour to make viewers chuckle consistently. TC 25 - Storywriter Awarded to an individual or a team for conceiving an original/adapted engaging story which goes to make for a very successful TV series. TC 26 Scriptwriter (Non Fiction) Awarded to an individual or a team that is responsible for writing a document describing the narrative and dialogue of a non fiction television programme. (For eg In a reality show the scriptwriter is responsible for whatever the anchors speaks throughout the show) TC 27 - Choreographer Someone who has helped the performers who can either be celebrity or a common man to give a dance performance either solo or in a group in any television show by creating different styles of dancing and making them rehearse for the same. The show that does this in an innovative, interesting and entertaining manner will be eligible for this award. PR 2 - Entertainment News Show on an Entertainment Channel The show that dealt with news and reports on the world of entertainment / films / celebrities / parties and gave updates on the entertainment world in a manner that kept the viewers hooked. PR 3 - Public Service Programme A programme that was untouched by the pressures of commerce and focused on communicating a public interest message, which tackled issues that not many a commercial programmer would touch. PR 4 - Lifestyle & Fashion Show A show that covers trends in fashion and lifestyle effectively, giving us insights into the world of the well heeled. It should have stood out for its concept and format, production values and constant innovation as well as refreshing presentations, and strong editorial content. Good anchoring, fast-paced edits, camerawork, good subjects and a well-rounded approach to the topic will give the show an added advantage. PR 5 - Talk Show on an Entertainment Channel The talk show on an entertainment channel that relied on chatter to bring out various nuances of an individual s be it a common man or a celebrity or a professional - personality. The show could act like a forum, which could delve into the personal lives of personalities besides discussing their role in society. It could have the audience as an integral part of the show or it could also be an individual talk show where the host questions the concerned individual/s as well as highlights the public reactions towards the actions and performance/s of individual/s. PR 6 - Cookery show A television program that presents the preparation of food; prepares one or more dishes over the course of the show showing all intermediate stages of cooking. The show should be at least partly educational, as the host teaches the viewing audience how to prepare different meals with each episode of the show. PR 7 - Sports Show A show that provides comprehensive sports coverage of any sport and gives its viewers all the relevant details about the sport or the sports person covered. The show should have the capacity to keep the audiences glued throughout the show. PR 8 - Travel Show A show that offers its viewers to plot their next trip, help travelers who are not quite sure where to go; by showing them various holiday destinations all over the world and giving them all possible information about that particular destination. There is no limit to the number of entries per category that can be submitted from broadcasters, productions houses and media organizations. We have further fine tuned Telly Awards categories and rules taking into account feedback from industry. There are 70 categories for which entries can be sent. There is, however, NO LIMIT on the number of entries that can be submitted for each category for television work that has been produced/achieved/performed during the period from 1 September 2009 to 31 August. The entries for all the categories have to reach the Indian Television Dot Com Pvt. Ltd. office in Mumbai (as per the address mentioned in this kit) on or before the closure of working hours of 10th September. No entries will be accepted after the specified date under any circumstances. A processing fee of Rs 500/- PER ENTRY (Rupees Five Hundred Only) is applicable. So please append a cheque / DD / Pay Order of the correct amount along with your entries. The payment should be made out in the name of INDIAN TELEVISION DOT COM PVT LTD. Cash payments will be accepted only in the case of hand deliveries and a receipt will be provided. There will be no refunds of the entry fees if entries are rejected by the jury as entrants should take every care to ensure that they follow the instructions given in this kit. Only those entries will be accepted that are complete in all respects in terms of all details required. Respective DIGI BETA and DVD, must have the footage / clippings of the individual or the show in specified format (depending on the category for which the entry is being received), photographs, detailed credits, the channel and the date of original telecast. All postage/courier charges must be pre-paid. No materials will be returned and the materials submitted will become the property of Indian Television Dot Com Pvt Ltd. The nominations for all categories have to necessarily be from the channels/networks that have national reach in India. Only programmes in Hindi / English are allowed to participate. Regional language channels and programmes are not eligible for Telly Awards. The details in the form should be typed or handwritten clearly (IN LEGIBLE CAPITAL LETTERS ONLY PLEASE). For the category of Trade awards (Cable Operators, TV Production House) individual entries will not be accepted, the entry has to be a corporate entry. This means the individual candidate nomination for an award should have been forwarded by the company / corporate / production house with the appropriate management approval. Entries once submitted and accepted by Indian Television Dot Com Pvt Ltd, will be considered as final. No alterations, replacements will be permitted. Duplication of entries by the same production House / Channel will not be allowed. If separate entries are received for the same programme from the Channel as well as Production House, it will be treated as ONE Entry. Each form can be used only for a single Entry; No Multiple Entries per form will be permitted. IT IS ADVISABLE TO LABEL THE TAPE APPROPRIATELY WITH THE RIGHT TCR GIVING THE CATEGORY NAME AND CODE, PROGRAMME TITLE AND CLASSIFICATION AGAINST IT FOR EACH ENTRY. The tapes should be complete in all respects with quality audio and video suitable for telecast. For categories such as Best Sitcom, Continuing Show, Drama Series, entrants should send one complete episode/show as aired without commercials. Additionally, another 20-minute show reel of the television programme covering many episodes edited and compressed to give a flavour of the show should be submitted along with a 500 word synopsis of the show / programme and what went into its making like photographs, clipping of marketing activities etc. For categories such as Best Music Director/ Lyricist/Title Singer/Background Score on DAT/CD recording of the same along with the Digi Beta Tape or DVD of the show should accompany the entry. The lyrics should be submitted as a hard copy for the Best Lyricist entry. Submitted tape should include the song in its entirety and enough additional footage before and after the song to give the judges a sense of its context for the Best Title Song Category. For Best Background Music Score samples over various episodes along with show footage would be needed to enable the judges to come to an effective decision. For categories such as Best Actor (Male/Female) /TV personality/tv Anchor/Presenter/Actor in a Comic Role (Female/Male)/Actor in a Negative Role (Male/Female) a 20 minute show reel containing excerpts of the best scenes running across episodes where the person s talents are best on display should be submitted along with a single episode of the show where the actor features to a large extent. Label each tape on front and on the spine with: Title of entry, category number, duration of entry, show reel on tape with a descriptive note of shows being put on tape (minutes/seconds). Include the following additional information on the front label: company name, contact person, Telephone No, and email address. A covering letter must accompany the entry forms, detailing the total number of entries along with the Category code, Category name, Name of the programme / nominees and payment details being specified clearly.
