STROBOSCOPE Today, you can see a lot of these quick flashing lights above the dance floor, giving the impression that everybody is dancing, making brusque movements. Those lamps are called stroboscopes. In fact, a stroboscope is just a flashbulb with an adequate power supply and a trigger circuit of which the frequency, in most cases, is adjustable. The frequency of this stroboscope is adjustable between 5 and 15 Hz. Some applications: Photo amateurs: making snapshots Film amateurs: lightning imitations for films Choreography Lighting in discotheques Slow motions Shop-window lighting Technical data: Power supply: 110 VAC Absorbed current: 13W max. Flash frequency: 5 to 15 Hz Dimensions: 50 x 75 mm ( 2 x 3 inch )
Construction: WARNING: ALL COMPONENTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY CONNECTED TO THE MAINS. DO NOT TOUCH THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY FOR YOU AND ANY FUTURE USER TO MAKE SURE NOBODY CAN REACH THE PARTS. BOX THE UNIT IN INSULATED HOUSING ONLY SOLDERING INSTRUCTIONS: Use a small soldering iron of 40W max. Use thin (1mm) solder tin. Careless soldering always causes problems. Heat the component lead and apply soldering tin, make sure that the solder has a shiny look. Cut the component lead, do not cut in the soldering tin. This is how a good soldering looks like
Mount R1 to R3, 100K 1/4W resistors. These are all the same resistors with the color code brown, black, yellow. Mount the diac D1, the diac looks like a diode but has no polarity. Mount the diodes D2 and D3, 1N4007 type diodes. Check for the polarity (the cathode is indicated by a strip on the p.c.b. and on the diode) Mount R4 the high power 330ohm/5W resistor. Pay attention. Do not mount this resistor flush to the p.c.b. Leave a 2mm (1/10") clearance.
Mount C1, a 0.1uF/400V capacitor. This type of capacitor has no polarity. Mount C2, a 10µF electrolytic capacitor: Check for the polarity! Mount the two pole MAINS screw connector at position J1 Mount the trigger coil L1
Mount C3 and C4 two 22uF/ 350V electrolytic capacitors. Check for the polarity. Mount RV1, a 470K linear potentiometer. Mount this potentiometer with its shaft turned to the outside of the print. Mount the triac TR1. Depending on the type, look at the picture for correct mounting.
At last, mount the strobe tube where marked TUBE. CHECK FOR THE POLARITY. The connection marked with a red strip or dot has to correspond to the + of the print. Depending on the way the kit will be incorporated in a housing, mount the tube horizontally or vertically, see the pictures. Remark: Bend the leads carefully before mounting the tube horizontally. Vertical mount Horizontal mount
Usage: Connect the 110VAC power supply to the points marked MAINS The flash frequency may be adjusted, between 5 and 15 flashes per second, by means of RV1. A location on the print is made to add a reflector just behind the strobe tube. It is highly recommended to put the unit in a well insulated housing to avoid touching the components because of the very high voltages. In fact, voltages up to 3kV run through the flash tube and the circuit is directly coupled to the mains. It is really unhealthy to touch these voltages!!! WARNING: ALL COMPONENTS ARE CONTINUOUSLY CONNECTED TO THE MAINS. DO NOT TOUCH THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
We guarantee the good operation of this kit when correctly assembled and used. In case of trouble you can send the kit to the dealer for repair. The repair is for free when the trouble is caused by production fault. We are not responsible for damage of any kind caused by the failure of a kit.
