Arizona District NATS Student Auditions Musical Theater, Contemporary Commercial Music, and Dear Arizona District NATS Members, It is time to prepare for our 201 Arizona District Audition. All Members: Please reach out to teachers in your communities who either are not current NATS members or have not yet joined NATS. There is still time for them to have their membership reinstated or to apply for new membership and the more the teachers in our District work together the more opportunities for our students we can create Please forward this email to any voice teachers who might be interested in having their students compete in We encourage teachers to register and attend even if they are not planning to enter students. There is much to be gained from attending even without students auditioning. There is no cost to any teachers who will be joining as long as they are willing to judge. We are planning some amazing masterclasses and the Arizona Songfest will also be at U of A that weekend with many events NATS members will be able to enjoy as part of the weekend. Dues Paid: Be sure you have paid your dues for the 201 year. We are required to check the status of members before running the auditions. If you are not current, you and your students will be removed from the schedule. It can take several days for your dues payment to reach the auditions site. This cannot be expedited so kindly plan ahead. Registration Fee: Teachers have a $12 registration fee to be paid at check-out. This fee is to help pay for all of the materials and accompanists and more that are needed for the event. Volunteers Needed: We are always in need of volunteers before and during the conference (beyond the normal adjudication assignments). Please contact Stevie Fox (magicvoicestudio@gmail.com), NATS Southern Arizona Chapter President and Auditions Site Host, if you are willing to volunteer your time and talents. Categories to Note: Please note that we have already pre-split the categories for the categories by age (as it is done at Regionals). Please pay EXTRA close attention that you are registering your student for the correct category, check their birthday year with their parents. If we do not have enough participants in any age we will combine as needed with in the categories. See the attached document "District Categories" for full details.
Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) The music done is this category is traditionally done with a microphone. We are going to attempt to use microphones for this category this year. The system will be a Fender Passport 500 pro system. We will have it set up in the room and the auditions can chose to use it or not. Finals: We have done everything in our power to minimize the need for finals, with that said we are prepared to do as many finals as needed. We have 2 slots set aside for Finals. Saturday night the 3 rd 6:30-9:30 and Sunday the 4 th 9-11 am. We will only use the Sunday times if needed. For the categories that have Finals the finalist will be allowed to sing ONE song with the following time constraints: Youth and HS Divisions - 4 Lower College and Adult Divisions - 5 Upper College and Advanced Divisions - 6 REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS Registration is open now. IT WILL CLOSE DECEMBER 20th, 2017 at midnight. Please be aware that this is a hard deadline. Once registration closes there can be no changes made. As much as we would like to be accommodating, it simply isn t possible. Website and Support: 1. Go to nats.org and log in. 2. Go to Member Home. 3. Scroll down until you see the green button NATS AUDITIONS REGISTRATION. This button will only show up if you are current with your dues. Only members in good standing can enter students. Please pay your 201 dues. We are required to check members standing before running the auditions. If you haven t paid your dues your students can not participate. It can take several days for your dues payment to post in the auditions site. Plan accordingly. 4. You will be redirected to the auditions site. If your chapter is currently holding auditions, once are redirected be sure to select the Register for Another Audition/Conference and select Arizona District Auditions 201. 5. Use 5 of your students lessons to register them since they know their addresses, birthdays, piece names, composers, etc. 6. Student accompanist and repertoire are required information. 7. As you are checking out, you will list your judging preferences (, CCM, and ) and your availability to judge. We hope to honor everyone s preference but depending on the number of applicants we may need to use you in another category but we will; do our best. You will need to pay with a credit card for the student registration and collect that money from your students. New this year: the national office determined only teachers are allowed to register and pay. The biggest reason for this is the amount of support needed for each individual using the site. There is only a few of us and we simply cannot volunteer and lose any more teaching hours than we already are. Please be patient. Repertoire Selection: The categories offered in our district this year are attached to this email. A careful reading of repertoire requirements will aid your students preparation of appropriate material. All music will be vetted to prevent on-site disqualifications. Please read the guidelines so you can properly advise your students. A national
auditions committee made a number of important changes in repertoire requirements, not the least of which is the allowance of musical theater selections not from shows produced on Broadway. Cuts, Keys, etc.: The nats.org page offers helpful information regarding cuts, keys, and much more https://www.nats.org/frequently_asked_questions_-_nsa.html. If bringing your own accompanist, s/he can play for a maximum of 1students entries. Again, each division entered counts as an entry. This is necessary to facilitate scheduling. Schedule: After the registration deadline closes, details are tracked down, music is vetted and the automated scheduler is run, your student, accompanist, and judging schedules will be emailed to you. Staff Accompanists: We are contracting with local pianists to play for those who are not bringing their own. These staff pianists will be listed in the drop-down menu. The fee is non-refundable and will be $36. The fee does not cover rehearsal. It does pay for multiple rounds should your student move on to the semi-final or final rounds. Do not select a pianist unless you have asked them in advance. They may already be committed to another teacher. One reason the audition site is so affordable is that customer support consists of largely of a NATS volunteer from our region. Please make an effort to be as self-sufficient as possible by reading the instructions listed above and to read through the catergory and repertoire requirements. Should these resources fail to answer your questions, contact Nichole Jensen at Nichole@melodicmusicstudio.com. We have a number of exciting masterclasses planned and will be sending a more in depth schedule in January. We look forward to these upcoming District Auditions.
