Music Generation Laois Summer Programmes 2018 Trad Summer School Friday 20th July to Sunday 22nd July Portlaoise Further Education and Training Centre, Tower Hill, Portlaoise Time: 11am 3pm (Fri & Sat) 11am 4.30pm (Sun) Age: 8 years upwards Cost: 60 Tutors include Mohsen Amini (concertina), Ernestine Healy (concertina), Deirdre Granville (harp), Lauren O Neill (harp), Mikie Smith (uilleann pipes), Padraig McGovern (uilleann pipes), Paul Finn (button accordion), Derek Hickey (button accordion), Siobhan Peoples (fiddle), Denise Boyle (fiddle), Tommy Fitzharris (flute), John Kelly (flute), Colm Phelan (bodhrán), Tommy Hayes (bodhrán) and many more to be announced. There will also be a MIXED JUNIORS CLASS for more recent beginners. REQUIRED STANDARD: You must have some experience to enrol in the Trad Summer School. Here's your chance! Join Maria for an introduction to juggling, hula hoop, balance, acrobatics and more. Circus is where sports meet arts and creativity and individualism is celebrated. With many disciplines to choose from, each participant will get a chance to try something new and then focus on their favourite in an encouraging and supportive atmosphere. Maria has been teaching youth circus for over 8 years around Ireland and internationally.

Art and Craft Workshops Art Workshops with Caroline Conway WORKSHOP 3 Tuesday 10th to Thursday 12th July MDA, Mountmellick 2pm-4pm Artist Caroline Conway will be exploring pattern and texture through print and collage. Please bring an old shirt to keep your clothes clean! Caroline has been working in schools and with community groups for many years. Having trained at Edinburgh College of Art in print and fabric, she has exhibited widely and been awarded a number of Public Art Commissions, working in the mediums of printmaking and animation. Participants will be encouraged to design their own artwork or can choose to trace with coloured indelible ink. You will learn how to assemble a kite and advice is given on kite safety. All participants will bring home a colourful kite at the end of the workshop. Participants will get to make a Secret Sculpture from a mystery bag of materials and the challenge will be to come up with the idea and develop their own work of art. During this process the children will have the opportunity to explore the many different techniques of creating with clay.

Young Persons Workshop Rules Respect all tutors, helpers and organisers. Respect the venue and refrain from damaging the property of others. Enjoy yourself and help to make the workshops enjoyable for others. Respect others personal space. Bullying and verbal or physically threatening behaviour will not be tolerated. Respect the fact that others in the workshop may come from different economic, religious and ethnic backgrounds to you. Participants may not leave the workshop venue during the hours of the workshops without prior written consent from your parents/guardians. Hand held games, wheelies, skateboards and other types of play equipment are not allowed at the workshops. Good clothes should not be worn to the workshops as materials used at the workshops could stain. Each participant is responsible for the care of their personal belongings and Laois County Council is not responsible for any loss or damage to personal property. A small drink and/or snack can be brought to the workshop if required. The Arts Office will facilitate Arts Workshops in July as part of Laois County Councils social inclusion policy as follows: Pottery Workshops in Mountrath in association with Respond and Art Workshops in the MDA Mountmellick, in association with the Youth Development Centre.
