As part of the Instrumental Music Program, students from Year 4-12 will be able to have instrumental lessons from our amazing team of instrumental tutors. In 2018, the following instruments will be offered: *Woodwind (Oboe, Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet) with Georgie Hargraeves *Brass (Trumpet, French Horn) with David Quinlan *Guitar and Bass Guitar with Dave Crowden *Vocals with Tamlyn Magee Performance Opportunities Every student enrolled in the Instrumental Music Program would be expected to perform at designated College events such as the Instrumental Music Night, College Musical, Band Camp, Assemblies, Liturgies etc. Performing is an important part of Music and we encourage our students to participate in these events. Timetabling For Secondary students, the instrumental music lessons offered at the school are run on a rotating timetable. This way the students will not miss out on the same class every week. Students come out of their normal classes and go to the Music Room (R414) on a rotating basis for their lesson. Lessons are normally a half-hour in duration. Instrumental tutors are given timetables for each student. Lessons would occur during normal teaching hours. Students that participate in the program would need to be responsible for catching up on missed work. Primary students will most likely be given a regular lesson time each week to help with consistency. Tuition Fees Payment for Instrumental Tutors is arranged between parents and tutor. Parents receive invoices directly from the Tutor. The College will have no involvement with financial arrangements. The average fee for a standard weekly half-hour lesson is approximately $27. Group lessons are possible in consultation with the Instrumental Tutor and incur different fees. Instrumental Hire Lumen Christi has already established an Instrumental Hire Program. This program allows students to hire a range of instruments for a relatively small fee (see details of available instruments on next page). The Instrumental Hire Policy is on the College website. It gives parents the option of hiring an instrument without the commitment of paying the outright cost of a new instrument. Payment for the hire of instruments is charged per term. The Music Department is very excited to offer this program to students and know your child will have a wonderful experience learning and playing music through our Instrumental Program. Please feel free to contact me with any queries via email or phone. Yours sincerely flak Joe Fragnito Cindy Dibley Steve Centra Music Teacher Head of Faculty Principal Performing Arts

Instrumental Hire Policy Purpose: The Instrumental Hire policy is designed to enable students to engage in instrumental music tuition in a more affordable manner. The ability to hire a range of instruments means families do not have to purchase what are often very expensive instruments. The provision of instruments in turn assists the College in developing the instrumental music program and associated ensembles which then strengthen the performing arts culture at the College. Policy: Instrument refers to the instrument, its accessories and carrying case. Students K-12 will be eligible to hire a school instrument. For information on the available instruments for hire, please refer to the Instruments for Hire page at the end of the document. Allocation of instruments is subject to the availability of instruments and is at the discretion of the Music Department and College. Where there are more requests than available instruments, (e.g. three requests for one available Trumpet) each prospective student will be consulted with by the music staff in order to ascertain their suitability for that instrument. The College s decision on the allocation of instruments will be final. Students who are willing to participate in one of the College s Music ensembles e.g. Stage Band, Junior Band, Vocal Group etc. will be given priority when hiring instruments. Before allocation of an instrument the hirer will be supplied with a copy of the Instrument Hire Policy and will be required to sign an Instrument Hire Agreement. Instruments will be issued in good condition and working order. At the end of each school year, the student will return the instrument in good condition and working order. The College will service each instrument over the holiday period. Any loss or damage must be reported to the Music Department immediately. Costs arising from damage or loss caused by negligence on the part of the hirer will be recoverable from the hirer. The College will use hire fees for the purpose of repairing and maintaining instruments and eventually replacing instruments that are beyond repair.

2 Hire fees are to be paid at the commencement of every school term. Sign the Instrument Hire Agreement Form and place this with payment in a clearly marked College envelope into the College Payment Drop Box. The agreement form with confirmation of payment will be forwarded to the Music Department, and you will be called up to collect your instrument. At the end of each school year, the hirer may re-apply to hire that particular instrument for the following year, providing that the instrument has been carefully maintained during the previous hire period. The Music Department shall keep an Instrument Register and a copy of the register shall be kept at the College in the Administration office. The Instrument Register shall provide the following information for each instrument: a) Make and model of instrument b) Serial number of instrument c) Instrument case reference number d) Condition of instrument at beginning of hire agreement e) Name, address, telephone number and student number of hirer f) Copy of Instrument Hire Agreement signed by the hirer and a parent. The Policy in its entirety shall take effect from the beginning of each school year. The hiring of instruments will cease at the end of the school year. The Policy shall be reviewed every year. Students leaving the College who at the time are hiring a musical instrument must complete and sign a Clearance Form. This form indicates that the student has returned their hired instrument before leaving the College. The instrument must be returned to the Music Department where the Clearance Form will be signed.
