The 2012 Fall Musical Auditions for: Pippin Music and Lyrics by: Stephen Schwartz Book By: Roger O. Hirson Synopsis: Once upon a time a young prince longed to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. He sought it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power. In the end, he found it in the simple pleasure of home and family. AUDITION PROCEDURES PRE- AUDITON VOCAL CLINIC: Thursday, August 23, 2012 Performing Arts Center, 3:40 to no later than 6:00 NO PREPARATION IS NECESSARY- JUST SHOW UP!! Men and women will be taught excerpts from a couple of different songs. You will learn the music in a group, singing through the song several times together. THE AUDITION PROCESS: Please bring your signed audition permission slip and a non- returnable picture of you, (one that looks like you) to the first night of auditions, Monday, August 30, 2010. PRELIMINARY VOICE AUDITIONS: Monday, August 27, 2012 Performing Arts Center, 3:45-5:00 pm (F/S) 5:15 6:30 pm (J/S) Sign up in the time slot for your grade level on the East Bldg. call board (next to the PAC). Sign ups will begin on Thursday, August 16, 2012. You must make arrangements to audition in the correct time slot for your year in school.

If you have an unavoidable conflict or transportation problems, you MUST see Ms. Lynch in Rm. 2204 BEFORE Monday, Aug. 27, 2012 to arrange an alternative audition time, not date. Before we hear individual voices, we will review the music in a large group, singing the excerpts together. Afterword, we will ask you to sing the excerpt, on your own Keep in mind, the song need not be memorized, polished or choreographed- just sung to the best of your ability, in your best voice, with energy and enthusiasm. That s it! NOTE TO PEOPLE WHO THINK THEY CAN T SING OR WHO ONLY WANT TO BE A DANCER, Because Pippin is a musical, everyone on stage will sing as part of a group. So, we need to hear your voice ALONE, even if you think you are not interested in, or qualified for singing solo. Most people can sing much better than they give themselves credit for, so be brave- - you ll do fine! MOVEMENT AUDITIONS: Tuesday, August 28, 2012 Performing Arts Center, 3:40 to approx. 6:15 pm Movement auditions are required of all students who wish to be considered for a role!! No preparation is needed. A basic dance/movement combination will be given to all students. You will practice and present this in groups. A more advanced combination will be given to students based on the results of the first combination. We need to see how each of you moves on stage, and will be choosing featured dancers based on these auditions. Even if you have no dance experience or believe you have no dance ability, you need to attend the movement auditions. Again, ALL STUDENTS MUST ATTEND BOTH MOVEMENT AND PRELIMINARY VOICE AUDITIONS in order to be considered for a part in Pippin. CALLBACKS: Wednesday, August 29, 2012 3:40 until no later than 6 pm (and, if necessary) Thursday August 30, 2012, 3:40 until we finish! Performing Arts Center A list will be posted by Wednesday morning on the SHS Theatre Web Page with the names of people who need to come back for additional audition activities. Specific instructions for when you should attend callbacks will be posted then. If you are called back, you may be asked to read from the script, sing, and/or dance, so please come prepared to do all three. The Cast List will be posted Friday evening, August 31, 2012. All students who audition should check the cast list, as some of you will be cast even if not called back. The first rehearsal/read- through will be Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 3:40 in the PAC. If you have questions about the auditions speak with Ms. Lynch in the Studio Theatre, room 2204, or at: clynch@d125.org. SEE YOU AT AUDITIONS!

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Auditions for Pippin are Monday, August 27 - Thursday August 30, 2012 beginning at 3:40 pm on the Main Stage in the Performing Arts Center. Performances of the play are November 1 (day time performance for incoming 8 th grade students) 2, 3, and 4 with a full cast MADATORY set strike call on Monday, November 5. Rehearsals begin September 4 and will continue through November 1. During the first 4-5 weeks, rehearsals are 3:45-6:15 pm Mon.- Fri. You will be expected to attend ONLY the rehearsals for the specific scenes, songs, musical numbers you are in, according to the rehearsal schedule. From approximately Oct. 15- Nov. 5, ALL cast members will attend ALL rehearsals, performances, and strike call. We will also hold a Pizza in the Pit rehearsal with the full pit orchestra and cast on Sunday, Oct. 21 beginning at 4 pm and running no later than 8 pm. During PRODUCTION WEEK, which begins Friday, October 26 and extends through Wednesday, Oct. 31 rehearsals will extend into the evening. An all-day first full technical rehearsal and costume parade will take place on Sunday, October 28. ALL CAST members must attend this, as well as all other full tech. rehearsals. Additionally, if you are cast in a lead or featured role, you may be called for a Monday, October 8 (Columbus Day) rehearsal. Before you audition, check ALL of these dates with your parental units and be sure that you do not have prior commitments, including doctor, dentist, orthodontist appointments, college visits, and/or other family travel plans. When you audition for a show at Stevenson High School, you are auditioning for every role. It is the Director s job to cast you or not cast you as she/he sees fit. Sign up for an audition slot at the Fine Arts Call board located at the East entrance of the Performing Arts Center (east building). DO NOT LEAVE OPEN SLOTS. Sign up in the first available opening. All cast members are required to help in building sets, hanging lights, working on costumes, etc. Weekend crew days will be set up and you will be expected to participate in at least one full crew day. Additionally, all students who participate in building sets, hanging lights, working on costumes, etc. (which includes ALL cast members) must first participate in crew safety training. We will offer an initial training on Saturday, August 25 starting at 10 am in the PAC. Any and all students who plan on participating in any theatre production is encouraged to attend this initial training. Future trainings will be offered later in the year, but students must be trained in order to participate in any and all theatre crew activities. You may be asked to furnish portions of your costume. The budget does not always allow the luxury of providing all costume needs for each character. Additionally, if and when costumes are provided for you, you must take care not to damage your costumes. Any rented or borrowed costume or costume piece for which SHS is charged excessive wear and/or replacement fees, the student will be expected to cover that cost. So, please take care of all the garments you are issued for production.

NOTE: Students participating in ANY/ALL co-curricular groups, clubs, productions, and/or teams MUST meet SHS eligibility and attendance policies. If at any time during the rehearsal process these requirements are not upheld, you will be pulled from the group, cast, team, etc and replaced. Refer to your student handbook for the eligibility policy and requirements. Scripts are available in the Library for OVERNIGHT checkout. Please read the play prior to auditions; you ll feel more secure in the choices you make for your audition. Also - please adhere to the overnight checkout policy. If you do not, the library staff will inform me, and it may affect casting decision. (No kidding!) When you audition, remember that you can never be too loud. Use and focus all your energy into the audition when you are on stage. Be Bold! Have fun! If you have any questions, see Mrs. Lynch in the Studio Theatre, room 2204, West Building.
