Yes, it s your library card! Celebrate your library membership with us this month by joining or renewing your membership today. second Annual Pumpkin decorating Contest Beginning on Sunday, October 1st, you can check out a pumpkin at the library! You don t need to return it just send us a picture of you and your decorated pumpkin for our Facebook page. More details will be available at the library closer to the date. Registration and information sessions will be held on August 22 and 24. All levels are welcome. Automatic renewals Your library materials may now automatically renew. If there are no holds on your items and if you have not yet reached your renewal limit, your items will automatically renew two days before their due date. Program Spotlights Introducing a New Program - wacky Wednesdays! School s out early on Wednesdays, so join us every Wednesday after school for an hour of fun! We will have crafts, board games, movies, origami and lots of other activities for you to try every week. And why not stay for Kids in the Kitchen at 3:30 PM? Wednesdays, Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27 Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25 Nov. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 @2:30 PM Let s get coding! Thursdays at 4:30 PM Computer programming, or coding, is a digital literacy skill that has become as important as reading and writing. Learning to code builds rational thinking and problemsolving skills, providing powerful tools that transfer to other subjects and create lifelong learners. If you are in fourth grade or up, we invite you to learn along with us as we play around with fun coding activities. Book Sale and Craft material Swap - Sun. Nov. 12 Find an unexpected treasure at our used book and DVD sale. The sale will remain up through the week and prices will be greatly reduced on Thursday, Nov. 15th. We re also trying something new this year a craft materials and wrapping paper swap. Beginning November 1st, we ll accept donations of clean, unused craft materials and wrapping paper. On November 15th, we ll make these donated supplies available for library patrons. If you make a donation, you ll get to pick one item before the doors open at 2:00 PM. If you d like to volunteer to help make this event a success, please contact Alicia at (708) 579-1844. Tuesday Movie Matinees - A Program for Adults You re invited! Film fans gather at the Library each Tuesday at 2 PM to watch and discuss a movie. Participants suggest the movies (and the snacks); we watch a variety of classic and contemporary choices. Sep. 19th 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Come to the library with your best pirate impression ready. Pull a pirate phrase from the jar and give it a try. Everyone who tries will receive a pirate loot bag. Not-So-Scary Halloween Weekend Fri. Oct. 27: Family Movie & Pizza Night @5:00 PM Sat. Oct. 28: Come in costume and trick-or-treat around the library @ 1:00 PM Sun. Oct. 29: Halloween DIY. Drop in for themed activities. 2:00-4:00 PM Movie, Food & Fun Fri. Sep. 29 5:00 PM Skip expensive movie theater tickets and bring friends, siblings, parents and grandparents to movie night at the library. Domestic faxes are free for Hodgkins residents. Unattended Children According to our policy: children in first grade and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian/caregiver at all times while at the Library. Because staff are unable to watch over children in the library this policy is in place to ensure the well being and safety of the young children who visit us.
