Notation Basics STUDY PART SOME STUFF WAS ALREADY SUBJECT MATTER FOR THE NOTATION TEST ON 0/30/2009 I CAN LABEL THE MAIN SYMOBOLS OF MUSICAL NOTATION Clef Note Accidental Key signature Pause Time signature 4 limenet.ch ksrstudysheet 200 by linus metzler

Notation Basics Bar line Chord Stave Triplet I CAN READ NATURAL NOTES IN ENGLISH Differently to the German version, the h is replaced by a b. So to German b becomes a b-flat. Natural are the white notes. b means flat. 5 limenet.ch ksrstudysheet 200 by linus metzler

Notation Basics I CAN READ NOTES WIRH SHARPS AND FLATS See above I CAN DEFINE TONES AND SEMITONES ON A KEYBOARD Tones are white and semitones are black. An exception is the jump between e and f aswell as between b and c. I CAN LABEL THE TWO MUST USED CLEFS Treble Clef Bass clef I CAN DESCRIBE THE USE OF EACH CLEF treble used for high, melody instruments for soprano and alto voices always at the same place middle c is on line - most common used bass low, bass instruments bass voices always at the same place middle c is on line + vocal tenor same as the treble clef, but one octave lower tenor voices lead guitars c middle point on the line of the middle c if the middle c is on line 3, it's called alto clef and is used for violas if the middle c is on line 4, it's called tenor clef and it's used for the higher ntoes in bass isntruments I CAN FIND THE MIDDLE C IN ANY CLEF (INDLUCING C CLEF) See above 6 limenet.ch ksrstudysheet 200 by linus metzler

Notation Basics I CAN READ NOTES WITH DOUBLE SHARP AND DOUBLE FLAT A double sharp (a cross) is equal to one tone higher (c becomes a d) and the double b is vice versa (d becomes a c) I CAN WORK OUT THE ENHARMONIC EQUIVALENT OF ANY NOTE For example a c-sharp is equivalent to a d-flat. Enharmonic equivalent means, that it sound the same, but is not written the same. I CAN READ WHICH NOTES ARE AFFECTED BY THE KEY SIGNATURE Affected by the key signatures are only the notes which lines are enclosed (sharp) or filled (flat) with the symbol. I KNOW THE FUNCTION OF A NATURAL It cancels every key signature for this one pitch in this one bar. I CAN DEFINE THE NUMBERS IN A TIME SIGNATRURE The lower numeral indicates the note value which represents one beat The upper numeral indicates how many such beats there are in a bar I CAN COUNT THE BEATS OF A TIME SIGNATURE IN A BAR Try n error 7 limenet.ch ksrstudysheet 200 by linus metzler

Notation Basics I CAN READ NOTES AND RESTS USING THE AMERICAN NAMES Value 2 4 8 6 Name (append note or rest ) Whole Half Quarter Eighth Sixteenth IN BRIEF Almost the same as on 0/30/09 but this time in English might be wise to have a look at it.
