(702) 492-0318 www.musicedconsultants.net Greetings Mariachi Workshops Participants: WELCOME to the 2015 National Mariachi Workshops for Educators which is SOLD OUT again this year! We are looking forward to seeing you! The event will kick-off with a performance from Rancho High School s Mariachi de Oro, under the direction of Robert Lopez (our Advanced Styles instructor), first thing Monday morning at 8:00 AM in the Bel Air Room in the Conference Center of the Golden Nugget Hotel. Doors will open at 7:00 AM on Monday so be sure to grab a cup of coffee and bring it along. Beginning on Tuesday, doors will open at 7:30 AM. We thought it might be helpful to provide you with some information in advance to assist in your planning. 1. The Golden Nugget has non-stop shuttle service from McCarran Airport this year! Cost is $10 one-way and $18 round-trip per person. This is much cheaper than taking a cab on your own so do take advantage of this opportunity. See attached Fact Sheet for details. 2. Dress for the event is casual. Temperatures can reach 105 degrees and higher during this time of year so please dress appropriately. The hotel conference center, however, can be chilly at times. The pool area is just beautiful so plan to bring your swimsuit as well. 3. Our special daily destination fee is only $5 (as opposed to $20) so even if you received a letter which states otherwise, this is our conference rate. Be sure that this is confirmed when you check in at the Golden Nugget. 4. As of today, we do not have access to complimentary wifi this year. You can certainly use your own hot spots if you have them, but stand by for a possible update to this on Monday morning. 5. If you have one, please bring your copy of the Simplemente Mariachi Teacher Edition. If you do not have one, it will be provided to you as part of your materials. If you bring one, you will instead receive a $30 gift certificate to use at the La Tradicion a Division of West Music store that will be on site.

6. I have attached a copy of the schedule for the week. We may make some changes within it as we go but thought it might be helpful for you to see the intended plan. This year, the lunches will be served rather than buffet style so all levels will break promptly at Noon to put up, etc. Lunch will be served at 12:15 PM daily (except Friday) in the Shoal Creek Room. We break for lunch on Friday at 11:00 AM. If you are taking the course for credit, you will notice that we have several extra sessions scheduled in the afternoons. 7. This year, the first day is dedicated to secondary and tertiary instrument classes that last approximately 90 minutes each. The point of these classes is to provide some introductory training on all of the that you may not already play. We encourage you to play that are new to you for the entire week but thought it would be helpful to have these intro classes to rotate through first thing on Monday. Five of these classes are being offered (Violin, Trumpet, Vihuela, Guitar and Guitarron) in four rotations so you will choose four of the five classes to take. You will sign up for these classes upon check-in on Monday. PLEASE BE SURE TO ARRIVE EARLY MONDAY MORNING SO THAT WE MAY GET YOU CHECKED IN AND SIGNED UP FOR MONDAY S INSTRUMENT CLASSES SO THAT WE CAN START PROMPTLY AT 8:00 AM. 8. We are having a no-host Reception on Monday afternoon starting at 5:00 PM in the Cadillac Mexican Cantina at the Golden Nugget so that we can get to know each other better. We always look forward to meeting our new attendees as well as renewing friendships from past years! After our concert on Friday (see #11 below), there will be an after party at this same location with Mariachi Aguilas de America, under the direction of Noe Ramos, performing. They are a professional mariachi ensemble made up of many of the CCSD s mariachi educators. I m sure that Jose will be joining them to create and share some memorable musical experiences. 9. The only evening event planned is the Mariachi Jam Session which is Tuesday evening. This is a BYO event that allows us to play through a good bit of the music in your notebooks just for fun along with Jose and Chuy Hernandez and the members of Mariachi Acero, under the direction of Erik Ramirez (our Intermediate Styles instructor). All other evenings are open for you to enjoy all that Las Vegas has to offer. 10. Master classes are being held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday (Guitar with Chuy Hernandez) and Thursday (Trumpet with Jose Hernandez). These two-hour classes are in addition to the regular day s events and are available for $50 each, payable to Music Education Consultants, Inc., upon arrival in Las Vegas. 11. We will perform our newly-acquired musical material in a casual concert on Friday so please bring a white shirt and black pants to wear. A moño will be provided. Monaco Middle School s Mariachi Los Gavilanes, under the direction of Ramiro Benavides, Yvette Sital and Daniel Valdez (our Beginning Styles instructors), will perform for us then we will perform for them. 2.

12. At the end of the week, you will receive a flash drive with all of the printed materials from all three levels loaded onto it. It will also contain YouTube links to the selections from all three levels so that you may have them to share with your students. 13. Please bring along your primary instrument if it is a flute, trumpet or violin. We have plenty of on hand but you may find it easier to get around on your own instrument on the more challenging pieces. 14. Feel free to bring Purchase Orders from your school district. La Tradicion Music is offering special conference prices on all, trajes (uniforms and suits), and miscellaneous accessories. 15. I may be following up this email with additional communiqués so please check your email frequently prior to coming to Las Vegas, as well as during the workshop week, for announcements as they may become necessary. 16.
