Page three New CAPMT District I Member Dr. Yu Carole Liu D.M.A. University of Michigan M.M. University of Massachusetts B.M. Sichuan Conservatory of Music, China Dr. Yu Carole Liu earned the Doctor of Musical Art, specialized in Piano Pedagogy and Performance, at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in 2012, at where she studied piano performance with Dr. Logan Skelton and piano pedagogy with Dr. John Ellis. In addition, her principal teachers in her earlier study have included prestigious pedagogue Dan Zhaoyi, Zheng Daxin, Estela Olevsky, and Nadine Shank. Carole has presented her pedagogical research and given workshops at universities as well as in major conferences including MTNA National Conference and PMTA State Conference. As a pianist, she has given solo and lecture recitals across the US and China. She was an adjudicator of the 6th Art Festival of International Young People in Hong Kong, the 5th Michigan Taiwanese Festival Competition, and 2012 Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival. Prior to her relocation to San Diego, Carole served on the piano faculty of Nelly Berman School of Music. She was also appointed as an instructor at the University of Michigan and the University of Massachusetts, teaching applied-piano and class piano to college music major students, as well as precollege students in the University s Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program. It was held at the SoCal Pianos recital hall in San Marcos. The Piano Auditions and the Ensemble auditions were held on the same day, in the same location. In between those two state events, there were 22 duets with two recitals. The Duet Festival was held to encourage students, and to prepare them so they will have the confidence to participate in future CAPMT state auditions. Six parents or grandparents played along with several siblings from two studios. What a fun festival it was! As an evaluator, John Marcin was encouraging and gave many suggestions to improve the duets. We hope that next year we will have more studios be a part of this fun, non-competitive event with their families and friends.
