East Rockaway Public Library Annual Report 2016-2017

East Rockaway Library Long Range Plan of Service Mission Statement To provide free unbiased authoritative access to information and materials in print and in digital formats. To provide a comfortable, safe, neutral space for children, teens and adults to read, socialize, do homework, attend programs, use library computers, wireless internet, fax machine and copiers. Vision Statement The East Rockaway Library will continue to provide free unbiased access to information. This information will be increasingly digital. We will continue to purchase materials in the most current format and train librarians to be experts in understanding the latest search strategies. The East Rockaway Library will continue to be a physical place for patrons as well as a virtual place through our website.

Objectives: Evaluate the library building Identify building maintenance projects. HVAC system electrical expansion-circulation desk-shelving-meeting room Action: HVAC system was replaced by the Village of East Rockaway Circulation Desk was replaced Meeting Room was renovated Electrical outlets upgraded Identify segments of the population that may be underserved. Action: Library collaborates with the school district s Jobs Skills Program Improve communication with the community Action: Updated webpage and expanded social media accounts Additional newsletter and email program notifications Continue to develop collections that reflect the needs of our community Action: Digitized high school yearbooks for circulation Expanded the library s collection of Spanish language items Increased availability of digital content Circulating collection of non-traditional items (i.e. cake pans, paper punches) Evaluate technology innovations and their impact on library service Action: Replaced all public computers Replaced outdated public copier with b&w and color copier with mobile printing Added online databases for magazines, job skills & homework help Maintain sound fiscal and personnel practices Action: Reviewed library staff salaries and adjusted accordingly Kept library budget within 1.5% +/- Adjusted schedule to have the staff required to maintain high quality service

Overview of 2016-2017 Library Budget The overall budget reflects a decrease of.69% Contribution from the Village of East Rockaway General Fund decreased by $32,952, or 5.02%. Town of Hempstead contract amount increase of $28,316 Decreases: Personnel costs down over 10% MTA tax eliminated Telephone costs down due to change in carrier State Retirement costs down SS/Medicare costs down Café Expenses down Increases: Office Supplies PR/Publicity additional newsletter Postage Equipment DVDs Programs Service Contracts Payroll Processing Fee Building Repairs Security Cameras
