Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual The Notes displays are LED matrix displays. There are two sets of Notes displays with different heights of the matrix. They are 9 or 16 pixels high. The LEDs are available in four colours: red, green, white and red-green (Two-coloured display). Notes 9-series is available in three LED widths and Notes 16-series in one width and both sets of Notes are available with or without signboard. The name of a Notes display is the height and the width of the matrix, for example a Notes 924 display is 9 pixels high and 24 pixels wide. The following table describes the Notes displays. All Notes are 20,5 mm thick. Table 1: Orchestra Notes Displays Set (height) Width (pixels) Name Size (mm) w x h LED area (mm) w x h Number of characters a 9 17 917 300 x 165 151 x 91 3 17 917 (with signboard) 300 x 240 151 x 91 3 24 924 300 x 165 214 x 91 4 24 924 (with signboard) 300 x 240 214 x 91 4 48 948 516 x 165 427 x 91 8 48 948 (with signboard) 516 x 240 427 x 91 8 16 64 1664 516 x 165 427 x 107 6 64 1664 (with signboard) 516 x 240 427 x 107 6 a.the number of characters that can be shown on the Notes display depends on the used font. The values in the table are based on a font that is 6 pixels wide for the Notes 9-series and 10 pixels wide for the Notes 16-series. For the Notes displays, the same programming and script language that was used for previous displays, is used. Please refer to the Display Programming manual, found on the Partner Portal, for more information about display programming. 2 Qmatic 173.01H

Notes 9-series The Notes 9-series are the standard displays for languages that use a Latin alphabet (or similar). 917 9 x 17 pixels. Notes 16-series The Notes 16-series are the standard displays for languages that use an alphabet with complex characters, for example Chinese, Japanese and Thai. The Notes 16-series displays can show more fonts and graphics than the Notes 9-series. It is, for example, possible to show a logotype. The text on the Notes 16-series can be bigger than the text on a Notes 9-series and it can also be shown in one or two lines. This makes the Notes 16-series display very useful as a main display, especially in larger waiting areas. 1664 16 x 64 pixels. 2. Notes Display Types Topics in this chapter Notes Workstation display... 9 Notes Main display... 11 173.01H Qmatic 7

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual In an Orchestra, Ensemble, Solo Virtua, Duet Virtua, or Solo Linea system, there might be many different types of Notes displays, showing different types of information. The system settings specify the information shown on the displays. Each type of display has its own settings. An ID code identifies each Notes display. Each type of Notes has its own range of ID codes. In the settings you specify the ID code for the first Notes display in the display range. Notes displays only receive information; they do not transmit any information. This makes it possible for many Notes to have the same ID code. Notes with the same ID code will show exactly the same information. The only connection needed for a Notes display is the Qmatic serial communication (the Modular cable). The Notes will both communicate and get its power through this cable. Notes Workstation display The Notes workstation display is usually placed above the workstation. The display guides the customers to the workstations. Notes Main display The Notes main display informs the customers when a new ticket number is called. It shows the ticket number, the workstation number and the direction to the workstation. A bell connected to the main display ensures that the customers do not miss the call. 8 Qmatic 173.01H

Notes Workstation display The Notes workstation display is usually placed above the workstation. The display guides the customers to the workstations. The ticket number flashes on the Notes when a new customer is called. Text messages can be used to enhance the information, for example CLOSED when the workstation is closed. A signboard showing for example the workstation number can be integrated in the Notes display. A Notes workstation display. ID code The Notes workstation display uses the same ID code as the corresponding workstation. Default start ID code: 1. 173.01H Qmatic 9

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Connection A modular cable connects the Notes workstation display to the Satellite Connection Box. The displays can be connected to any connectors on the Satellite Connection Box. The workstation number is specified by the ID code of the Notes not by the connector on the connection box. Depending on the system it may be necessary to connect a power supply to the Satellite Connection Box. The Satellite Connection Box is connected to the rest of the system with an EKKX 4 x 0.5 mm 2 cable. Do not connect wire 1 (+ 24V) to another power supply or ticket printer. 10 Qmatic 173.01H

Notes Main display The Notes main display informs the customers when a new ticket number is called. It shows the ticket number, the workstation number and the direction to the workstation. A bell connected to the Notes main display ensures that the customers do not miss the call. It is possible to combine two Notes to show two ticket numbers and workstation numbers at the same time or to show the ticket number and the workstation number on separate rows. The Notes main display is placed in the waiting area visible for all customers. A Notes main display with signboard. ID code Default start ID code: 81. 173.01H Qmatic 11

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Connection A modular cable connects the Notes main displays to the Satellite Connection Box. The displays can be connected to any connectors on the Satellite Connection Box when there are no bells but they should be connected to Disp 1, Disp 2, etc. if the bell connectors (Bell 1, Bell 2, etc.) are used. Connectors "Disp 1" to "Disp 4" are connected to "Bell 1" to "Bell 4" respectively, on the terminal block in the Satellite Connection Box. This makes it possible to have four Notes main displays connected to four different bells. Also, the terminal block makes it possible for Notes main displays to share the same bell. This bell should be connected to Bell 1: 12 Qmatic 173.01H

Four displays sharing one bell. The Terminal block in the box: It is the ID code and not the Satellite Connection Box that specifies the Notes main display number. The numbering of the display connectors on the Satellite Connection Box (Disp 1, Disp 2, etc.) indicates the corresponding bell connectors (Bell 1, Bell 2, etc.) and not the Notes main display number. Make sure that the power supply you use works well together with the power consumption of your displays. For more information, see Power Consumption. The Satellite Connection Box is connected to the rest of the system with an EKKX 4 x 0.5 mm2 cable. Do not connect wire 1 (+ 24V) to another power supply or ticket printer. 173.01H Qmatic 13

3. Settings Topics in this chapter Changing settings...16 Factory default settings...20 173.01H Qmatic 15

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual The settings give the Notes an identity, an ID code. All Notes showing different information must have different ID codes. Notes with the same ID code will show exactly the same information. The ID code also specifies the type of the display. All Notes display types (workstation display and main display) have their own range of ID codes. The ID code for the first Notes display of each type is specified in the system settings.. Workstation displays Information displays Main displays ID Codes ID code 1 ID code 65 ID code 81 Changing settings Use the button on the Notes display to change the settings. The button is placed on the left side of the display. To access the button, remove the side cover of the Notes display. No tools are needed for this, just pull the side off. Settings button 16 Qmatic 173.01H

Selecting setting Press the button to move between the different settings. The settings are shown on the Notes display. Release the button and wait about two seconds to see the current value of the setting. The following settings are available. ID ID Code SID Sub ID Code W Width of the Notes in pixels BSID ID Code for the font LED Test the Light Emitting Diodes (LED) Editing a setting Press the button until you reach the setting you want to change. Press the button to step between settings. 173.01H Qmatic 17

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual The setting is shown on the display. Release the button and wait until the current value is displayed (about two seconds). Press the button while the value is shown to change it step by step. If you keep the button pressed the value will continue to increase or decrease until you release the button. Stop when you reach the desired value. 18 Qmatic 173.01H

Release the button for a short while to change the direction of the counting. The setting is stored when ST is shown on the display. ID and Sub ID code The ID code and the Sub ID code of the Notes display. Width The width is usually correctly specified when the Notes display is delivered. The width must be specified if the display has been restored to factory default settings. The width is used in the name of the Notes display. For example, a 948 has width 48. BSID The broadcast sub ID code is used together with the broadcast ID code. These ID codes are used to send information to a wide range of units in the system. One example is when fonts are loaded into the Notes displays. All Notes should have the fonts, no matter which ID codes they have. This kind of information cannot be sent to the usual ID code because it is different for all units. Instead it is sent to the broadcast ID code. The broadcast ID code is the same for all units in the system and it cannot be changed. 173.01H Qmatic 19

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual The broadcast sub ID code (BSID) is a sub ID code for the broadcast ID code. Default BSID is 100. The broadcast ID code makes it possible to divide Notes into groups, for example if they are going to use different sets of fonts. The broadcast sub ID code is usually not changed. Notes with the same broadcast sub ID code will have the same set of fonts. The broadcast sub ID code that the system will use to upload fonts is specified in the font settings, in the settings section of the controlling system, such as Orchestra. LED test Use the LED test to check if all LEDs are working properly. All LEDs are turned on for a few seconds. All colours are tested on a multicoloured Notes display. To reduce the power consumption the LEDs are tested with 20% of the maximum intensity. Factory default settings All Notes displays have a set of basic settings that cannot be changed: the factory default settings. These settings can be used when a Notes display is not working properly. The factory default settings are the same for all display sizes so the display settings must be changed before the display is used. New settings must be specified when a Notes display has been restored to factory default settings. Do not forget to specify the width and the height of the display because these settings are also restored to a factory default value that may be different from the actual size of the display. Follow these steps to restore the Notes displays to the factory default. Disconnect the cable from the Notes display. Press the settings button and keep it pressed. Connect the cable to the Notes display. Release the button. The Notes display is restored to the factory default settings. 20 Qmatic 173.01H

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Connection devices The connection devices must never be used in any other way than described in documentation from Qmatic. Never use the connection devices together with any other products than those described in this manual or other manuals or documents from Qmatic. Make sure that the Notes displays are firmly fixed to a surface that can withstand their weight even in cases of earthquake or other kind of disturbances. Incorrect use of the mounting devices may result in fatal danger for persons passing under the Notes displays. Beware of static electricity when handling the Notes displays and especially when removing the folio from the displays. Many of the connection devices below work together with both a 10 x 25 mm tube and a 15 x 25 mm tube, which means that they are backwards compatible. 22 Qmatic 173.01H

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Cleaning of displays Handle the Notes displays with care! Leave the protective folio/foam on as long as possible. Note that removing the folio may cause static electricity. After mounting of the display and removal of the folio, please use a soft microfibre screen cleaning cloth, or a mild detergent to remove any finger prints or dust from the display. To avoid scratches, make sure that the cloth is perfectly clean. Also, never use strong solvents or polishes on the display! Fixing the Notes display to a wall To mount the Notes display to a wall, start by removing the display cover center from the display and drilling a hole through the circle in the center (se figure below). This is where the cable will be placed. Fix the display cover center to the wall, using four suitable screws (not included) and four wall mounting distances (article number 12501196). Note that if the wall mounting distances are not used, it will not be possible to slide the side covers of the display into place. Wall mounting distances Arrow symbol Hooks Drill hole for cable here. 28 Qmatic 173.01H

Make sure that the arrow symbol on the display cover center is facing upwards. When the cover center is mounted to the wall, hang the Notes display onto the four hooks on the cover center. Fixing the Notes display to the ceiling Fixing the Notes display to a tube To fix the Notes display to the ceiling, use a tube (both 25 x 10 mm and 25 x 15 mm are possible), connected to the display top bracket (article number 12271123), using the included screw. Then, fix the display to the top bracket, using the included screws (article number 12501197). To be able to fix the display top bracket to the display top, you first need to remove the display plate from the glass, so that the screw holes are accessible. When using the 25 x 10 mm tube, make sure you press it all the way down to the bottom of the display top bracket. Tube (either 25 x 10 mm or 25 x 15 mm) Included screw Display top bracket Included screws Display top 173.01H Qmatic 29

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual The finished result looks like this: The tube is 1100 mm long (article number 10930206 or 10940101, depending on if it s 25 x 10 mm, or 25 x 15 mm). Hanging from an acoustic ceiling An acoustic ceiling is usually not firm enough to support hanging Notes displays. The Ceiling Rail is an aluminium profile that is placed on beams in the ceiling with clamps to hold the tubes of the Notes hanging from the profile. The Ceiling Rail is placed on beams in the ceiling. For this, it is possible to use both 25 x 10 mm and 25 x 15 mm tubes. However, the 25 x 15 mm tubes can only be used in the center hole. 30 Qmatic 173.01H

For heavy loads of Notes displays, use two profiles one on top of the other, like this: Use the clamp to hang the display tube on the profile. The above clamp can be used with both the 25 x 10 mm and the 25 x 15 mm tubes. Use Cover Plates to cover the holes in the acoustic ceiling. There are breaking holes in the profile so that the profile can be shortened to a suitable length. First, cut open the holes close to the edge with cutting pliers then break the profile. The same profile can be used for all Notes displays. 173.01H Qmatic 31

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Hanging from a fixed ceiling The Fixed Ceiling Fastener is used if there is no acoustic ceiling. Two screws fix the Ceiling Fastener to the ceiling. Two other screws fix the 25 mm tube to the Ceiling Fastener. A A The Fixed Ceiling Fastener can only be used with the 10 x 25 mm tube. 32 Qmatic 173.01H

Hanging 2-4 displays from a ceiling, using a fixture plate It is possible to hang 2, 3 or 4 Notes displaýs back-to-back, in a square, or in a triangular formation, from an acoustic ceiling, using the ceiling fixture plate (article number 14120113A). This plate can only be used together with 15 x 25 mm tubes and together with clamps (article number 14120112A). To better be able to plan where and how to mount your displays, here you can see the measurements of the fixture plate: 173.01H Qmatic 33

5. Connecting Notes displays Topics in this chapter Cabling...38 Power Consumption...40 173.01H Qmatic 37

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Cabling All Notes displays use modular cables for both the power supply and the signal. Some Notes displays need an additional power supply cable. All cables must be placed inside the tubes and the displays. No cables should be visible from the outside of the display. The cables must be put through the tubes before the connectors are mounted on the cables. The placement of the cable through a tube The cables are always placed inside the tubes and the display top bracket or display stacking bracket, as in the picture below. 38 Qmatic 173.01H

The placement of the cable in a Display Cover Center. You need to drill through the circle in the middle of the display cover center, so that the cable can be pulled through and the display can be mounted. The following picture shows the placement of the cable in a display cover center. Naturallay, the cable can also be entered from the bottom, in a similar way. The cable is entered from the top. 173.01H Qmatic 39

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Power Consumption The number of Notes displays that can be supplied with power through the same cable depends on the displays power consumption. The following table can be used as a guideline for calculating the number of Notes displays per cable. The current in each cable must never exceed 1 A during normal use. Never exceed the maximum allowed output power of the power supply connected to the Notes displays. The maximum allowed output power depends on the type of the power supply. The power supply must be dimensioned for the maximum power consumption (usually at LED test). The power consumption of the Notes display depends on the font, the number of shown characters and the used colour. This table is only a guideline. The power consumption of the Notes display when amber is used is about twice the value compared to green or red. The power consumption for amber may exceed the power consumption at LED test if, for example, graphical symbols are shown on the Notes display. Never use an inverted font on the whole Notes display. To turn on all LEDs or most of them at the same time may damage the display. The table specifies the number of characters shown at the display for the presented power consumption. The values for the Notes 16-series are when they show Japanese or Chinese characters. Table 3: Power consumption for Notes Notes Stand by A (W) Single colour A (W) Amber A (W) Max single colour All LED on A (W) 917 (3 characters) 0.060 (1.6) 0.21 (5.5) N/A 0.42 (11) 924 (4 characters) 0.045 (1.2) 0.24 (6.2) 0.44 (11) 0.60 (16) 948 (8 characters) 0.050 (1.3) 0.44 (12) 0.84 (22) 1.2 (31) 1664 (4 characters) 0.050 (1.3) 0.49 (13) 1.0 (26) 1.8 (47) 40 Qmatic 173.01H

Cable lengths The following tables should be used as guidelines when you plan an installation. The tables show the voltage at the Notes displays for different lengths of the cable. The voltage is measured at the Notes display when the specified numbers of characters are shown. The voltage at the Notes display must never be under 20 V during normal use and 15 V when a signal is sent to the external bell. The cable used in the table is the Qmatic Modular Cable. The power supply is placed close to the connection box. Only one Notes is connected to the Modular Cable. There are two cases where the Notes displays must be connected to two Modular Cables. 1 The current to the Notes display is above 1A. 2 The voltage drops below 20 V because of the power loss in the cable. The selected font and the text shown on the Notes display affect the power consumption of the Notes display. The tables must not be used as exact values that you can use in your installation, only as a guideline to help you calculate the numbers of cables you need and the maximum length of the cables. Display The Notes display type. Characters Single Colour The number of characters in one colour (red or green) that are shown on the Notes display. Characters Amber The number of characters using amber (amber = green + red) that are shown on the Notes display. Bell An "x" indicates that an external bell is connected to the Notes display. 173.01H Qmatic 41

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual 40m, 30m, 20m, 10m, 1m The length of the Modular Cable. The table shows the voltage at the connector of the Notes display. This voltage must never be below 20 V during normal use or 15 V when there is a signal to the external bell. The value is measured when only one Notes display is connected to the same cable. The use of other cables or other power supplies may result in other values. In such cases we recommend that you measure the voltage at the Notes display connector to make sure that they get enough voltage. 42 Qmatic 173.01H

Connecting two power supply cables Some Notes displays (see the table above) need two cables for power supply. The second cable should only be connected to the power supply not to the signals. It is possible to use a CS1702 Y 2/1 box for this: Two power cables connected to one Notes display. 173.01H Qmatic 43

Notes 9 / 16 Series - Reference Manual Cable running through two stacked Notes displays. Two power supplies connected to one Notes display Some Notes displays require more power than can be supplied by one power supply. Two or more units can be parallel connected if more power is needed. 44 Qmatic 173.01H
