CASTING As it is the directors job to cast the show, we view the production as a whole not as individual parts that seem less or more important than others. As a result, everyone s contribution is important and valued. We kindly ask that you trust in our decisions and realize the importance of working together as an ensemble, with each actor viewing his or her role as an important part of the entire project. The cast list will be posted on the website on Friday, September 5 at 3:00pm and posted on the wall outside the Lower Commons at 3:30pm. PRODUCTION Scripts: Each member of the cast will receive a souvenir script for the show. They will need to take care of the script. If lost, a new one can be purchased for $20. Please write down all blocking and notes in your script as well as bring it with you during rehearsals. Practice: Students are required to practice every evening just as if they are doing homework. All songs and music are located on the website. They can be downloaded through the website as well. If you are unable to get the music through our website, please bring a cd disc to Mrs. Postle and one will be made for you. 2

Shoes: Each cast member will be responsible for supplying his or her shoes. Ladies will need ballet flats or black/tan character shoes no higher than 2 ½ heel height. Gentleman will need comfortable black lace up jazz shoes or character oxfords. Girls may be asked to purchase or use tap shoes. SHOES MUST BE BROUGHT TO DANCE AND BLOCKING REHEARSALS. Costumes: Students may be asked to bring costume pieces from their own closet. All costumes pieces borrowed by TES must be returned to TES once the production has completed. Makeup: Students will be required to wear some type of stage paint for under the heavy performance lights. Students will need to bring their own makeup. During production students must supply their own bag to hold their shoes and makeup. Technical Crew: You must sign up for an audition time as well. During your audition/interview, we will ask you questions regarding your interests and experience so that you may be placed in the appropriate position. Each crew member will be assigned to a crew and responsible for various technical details. REHEARSALS The rehearsals take place during the first trimester study hall. If students are signed up to be in the musical, they were placed in the day 2 rotation of study hall. During first trimester study hall, students will be required to be in class working on lines and rehearsing their scenes, music and dances. If a student misses more than 4 rehearsals, their role will be reassigned. Cast Participation and Attendance Requirements Once the audition process is complete, in order to maintain active participation status, a cast member must: Students and Parents must read and sign the Middle School Musical Packet. Comply with the TES Honor Code. Student not complying with the TES Honor Code will be dismissed from the show and their role will be reassigned. Bring script and music to every rehearsal. Take proper care of all materials including scripts, props, set pieces and costumes. Participate fully in all rehearsals and performances. Respect all Musical Theater staff, volunteers and participants. PERFORMANCES AND REHEARSALS This year, there are a few conflicts with TES sports and afterschool rehearsals. We have been working with our Athletic Director to avoid sports practices and meets. These rehearsals are mandatory and students can miss only one afterschool rehearsal but no performances. It is imperative that when students sign up they are committed to attending rehearsals and performances. Ensemble rehearsals are during DAY 2 Study Hall and run from Tuesday, September 2 to November 14. If casted as a lead, students may have rehearsals during a weekday afterschool. If a student is not in rehearsal during a study hall day they will be asked to attend study hall for that rehearsal. 3

The Audition Process Dance Audition: The kids will learn a short combination of multiple steps that they will perform for us in groups. We will assess how well they can dance in order to group them in certain dance numbers. Everyone will be involved in this. Bring your dancing shoes. No flip-flops. Acting and Singing Audition: Closed Auditions. Actors are to learn and sing their song one by one. Actors are asked to sing their song. Song choice should be in the same style as the music from the show. If auditioning for a character part, try to find a song that suits that character. - They will later be asked to do their lines, which will is included in this packet. (These should be prepared as much as possible. We get to see a lot more of their personality and acting skills when they are not fully inhibited by a cold reading script. We try to make this process as relaxed and comfortable as possible. Remember to have fun!! Callbacks: At the end of the second day, we may group kids together that we are interested in for certain parts. Not getting called back doesn t mean we didn t like someone; we may just not need to see them again. Audition Materials Audition Songs: Please prepare one of the following pieces of music for the audition you may sing any of them, but you will only be allowed to sing one of them at the time of the audition. Ladies Forget About the Boy Not for the Life of Me Gentlemen Speed Test What Do I Need with Love Audition Scenes: Scenes are included in this packet and on the website. Please be prepared to read for any of these roles at auditions.
