The Editing Process Once a sentence has been answered in a complete sentence, it is time to begin the editing process. 1. We start by chanting, Every sentence in the whole wide world begins with a capital letter. I tell the kids to touch the first word of each sentence they have written. This is to ensure they have started the sentence with a capital letter. If a student does not have a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence he or she must fix the mistake. 2. Next we determine what our sentence stopper should be. Did we need a period, a question mark or an exclamation mark? When we agree on the sentence stopper, each student touches it to make sure it is on the paper. 3. Now it is time to whisper read each sentence that was written. The students must touch each word as they read. They ask themselves: Do the sentences I have written make sense and sound right? 4
