2 CHARLES MACK ANDERSON PAPERS Accession No Guide BIOGRAPHY Charles Mack Anderson was an engineer in Seattle and Walla Walla, Washington. He was born in After teaching at Whitman College, he opened an engineering office in Seattle. He worked on the installation of some of Seattle s early water works, served as county engineer and laid out much of Seattle and subdivided many sections of King County surrounding Seattle. In 1884 he organized the Anderson Engineering Company. Anderson did considerable work for the state on tide flat lands and was appointed chief engineer for the Alaska Central Railroad Company in He also was a U.S. Deputy Mineral Surveyor ca Anderson was on the Washington Territory s military board when the National Guard of Washington was organized and became a colonel of the Second Regiment of the State Guard. He organized a regiment of eight companies in eastern Washington and became colonel of that command (ca ). SCOPE AND CONTENT The Charles Mack Anderson papers measure 13.8 cubic feet and date from 1878 to The papers primarily document his survey and engineering work. They also include a smaller quantity of National Guard correspondence and records of the Clatsop County Clay Company, ARRANGEMENT The papers have been partly processed. Bound volumes, including survey notebooks and ledgers, have been boxed together. Survey reports, maps and other folded material is boxed together. Consequently, the order of the inventory is not sequential by box number. ACQUISITION INFORMATION The provenance of the Anderson papers is not recorded. They were probably given to the Libraries in the 1940s in several installments by the Anderson family PROCESSING INFORMATION Processed in 1999, this accession is a merger of accessions no. 675, 676 and
