5 Paraphrasing is putting someone else's idea in your own words. This is acceptable when you include the title in the essay AND when you cite the source on the Works Cited page. A direct quote is when you take an EXACT quote, give credit to the source, include page numbers and cite it on the Works Cited page. The direct quote is in quotation marks.
