7 Citation Tips Alphabetize sources by first author listed; do not change the order of multiple authors listed for a single source. Whatever is listed in the in-text citation must match what is listed first in the works cited/reference entry for that source. Necessary information may not be immediately apparent, especially when citing an online source. Look to the very bottom of the page for information on authors, posting dates, and publisher. Looking for the copyright symbol ( ) may help. For governmental, educational, and organizational sources, individual authors may not be listed. Name of organization is acceptable as the author.
