To her, I m just Dad Jamie Foxx has made his name as one of the most talented people on the planet: an actor, singer- songw riter and stand-up comedian who has won numerous aw ards, including an Oscar and Golden Globe during his 25-y ear career. r But r father of tw o Jamie, 46, it s the opinions of his daughters Corinne, 20, and five-y ear- old Anelise that count most. My daughters are the loves of my life, say s Jamie. They hav e softened me in more ways than I will admit but I will say it is Corinne and Anelise who hav e taught me what s truly important in life. Jamie is speaking to Hello! in his spectacular fa mily home in Los An geles. Wi th its Grecian-sty le entrance and panoramic views, the house is the fa mily s hav en fr om their fu ll schedules. Now that Corinne s a young adult with a busy college life, I m just gratefu l I m cool enough that she still wants to hang out with me, Jamie say s, laughing. Already making her name as a model while stu dy ing at univ ersity, Corinne shares her fa ther s devotion to fa mily including her maternal half- sister Leah, 6, who joined the fa mily in this exclusive photo shoot. My sisters are both much younger than me so I m very protective of them; we don t hav e that rivalry that most siblings do, she tells us. Jamie shares that instinct and has been carefu l to keep the identities of Corinne s and Anelise s mothers out of the public domain. At the end of November, however, Corinne wi ll be centre of attention at Le Bal des Débutantes, the annual debutante ball in Paris. She ll be stepping out into society with 25 other young women fr om prominent fa milies, including Isabel Beattyt daughter of actors Wa rren Beattyt and Annette Bening all wearing couture gowns (Corinne has been working with Marchesa r her dress) and jewels fr om Swiss house Bucherer. r I m so proud of Corinne and I cherish every opportu nity r quality ti me together, say s Jamie. He s also just so hilarious. He makes me and my friends laugh whenever we re together. Born Eric Marlon Bishop, Jamie was raised in Te xas by his maternal grandparents. Encouraged by them, he studied classical music and composition at Cali rnia s United States International University. A stand-up comedy career began unexpectedly in 1989 when his then-girlfr iend dared him to per rm on open-mic night. Getting a taste r the stage and learning that fe male comedians were oft en called up first, he changed his name to the ambiguous Jamie Foxx. In 1991 Jamie joined the cast of In Living Color and starred in his own sitcom r five years be re hitting the big screen, earning the Best Actor Oscar in 2005 as Ray Charles in the biopic Ray. Seven years later, Jamie reunited with his Ray co-star Ke rry Wa shington in Qu entin Ta rantino s Dj ang o Un chained. Jamie s values of hard work and education hav e clearly been passed on to Corinne, a student at the University of Southern Cali rnia. Right now, I am studying public relations and business administration, she say s. College is the best thing that ever happened to me. I ve grown so much. She has also recently appeared in a campaign r the accessories brand Icing. Modelling is a great way r me to work while I m studying. And hopefu lly, in the fu ture, I can llow in my fa ther s otsteps as an actress. We love to collaborate creatively on music and film proj ects, adds Corinne. Even r a seasoned red-carpet professional like Corinne, wearing a unique Marchesa gown at the event is another irresistible draw. I flew to New York r my dress fitting. I got to try on so many beautiful dresses. I felt like a princess, she says. Le Bal marks a young woman s coming of age and Jamie is confident Corinne will make the right choices in life, even when it comes to love. Fortunately, she hasn t brought anyone home who required scaring off. I m ready, though, just in case. LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER Given her determination to llow in her father s famous otsteps, Corinne has taken one particular piece of his advice to heart. Dad told me, Never let anyone take your happiness away from you, she says. There are always people who ll want to tear you down or make you feel you re not good enough. My dad has taught me that no one can make me feel inferior or like I can t do something. He s taught me that I m in control of my own happiness.
