2 Opening Ceremony - I Will Use... 1st Cub: This is my country I will use my eyes to see the beauty of this land. 2nd Cub: I will use my ears to hear its sounds. 3rd Cub: I will use my mind to think what I can do to make it more beautiful. 4th Cub: I will use my hands to serve it and care for it. 5th Cub: And with my heart, I will honor it. Can You Move With Me? (tune: Do Your Ears Hang Low) Can you wiggle like a worm? Can you squiggle? Can you squirm? Can you flutter? Can you fly like a gentle butterfly? Can you crawl upon the ground Like a beetle that is round? Can you move with me? Can you flip? Can you flop? Can you give a little hop? Can you slither like a snake? Can you give a little shake? Can you dance like bee Who is buzzing round a tree? Can you move with me? What a Day Source: Scene: Four tired looking hikers enter, drop packs and flop in a circle. Hiker 1: (groans) What a day. Hiker 2: (after a pause, groans) What a day. Hiker 3: (sighs) What a day. Hiker 4: (happily) It sure was. Hiker 2: (angrily) If you can t stick to the subject, I m leaving! (First three hikers stalk off, leaving the fourth looking very surprised). Q How do bees brush their hair? A With a honey comb Going To Day Camp (tune of Oh, Susanna) Chorus: Going to Day Camp, So don t you cry for me. I ll come back good and dirty, So you ll never know it s me. I scrubbed the night before I left,

3 My hair was nice and clean. My mother was so proud of me, But not for long you see. While hiking out at Day Camp, I found the perfect pet. But I had to leave my friend behind, Because he scared the Vet. Q What do you get when you cross a computer with 1 million mosquitoes? A A gigabyte The Outing to the Park Setting: Den Chief is narrator. He is taking the boys on a nature hike. As the narration is read, the boys pantomime (suggested movements below). The Cub Scouts real names may be substituted for those shown below. If desired, scenery such as trees, shrubs, etc. may be used. Curtain opens with boys lined behind Den Chief, ready to take hike. I'll take you on a nature hike You boys in Gold and Blue You'll know what hiking's all about Before this day's through. Boys: (Sing Chorus to tune of the Kool Aid Song) Cubbing, Cubbing...It's great We love Cubbing...can't wait. Whose magnifying glass is this? You should have held it higher! You see, the rays came from the sun And set poor Tom on fire! (Den Chief holds up an imaginary magnifying glass while Tom grabs the seat of his pants and dances around.) But never fear, Salt Creek's nearby First aid is what we're learning Oh boys, you threw the wrong guy in, It's Tommy here who's burning. (Another boy shakes himself off and frowns) Please don't wade out into the green You'll drown and I'll not know, Besides a snapping turtle there Just bit off Bill's big toe. (Bill hops around holding his foot)

4 Please, Steve, don't hang there by your knees You're apt to come to harm, CRASH. What's that you're trying to say You think you've broken your arm? (Steve holds his arm and pantomimes pain) I know you're from the city, Rick And I'm not one who gripes, But black cats from these woods of ours Just don't come with white stripes! (Rick holds up an imaginary skunk, while other boys hold their noses) Your foot's caught in a gopher hole, Is that your trouble, Gary? Well, don't go away. I'll be right back A snake has bitten Larry. (both boys pantomime their predicaments) Alright now, Bill, where's the treats? We all could use a snack. But a hole tore in your paper bag About a half mile back? (Bill holds up imaginary bag and looks sheepish) OK boys, hit the trail for home. I hate to be a pill But this ain't a dance I'm doing, I just sat on an ant hill. (Den Chief squirms and wiggles around scratching himself) Q How do trees get on the internet? A They log on Bugs (tune: Frere Jacques) Big bugs, small bugs, big bugs, small bugs See them crawl on the wall Creepy creepy crawling, Never never falling. Bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs, bugs. 5 It seems there were two frogs sitting on a lily pad, when all of a sudden, a fly came along. One frog put out his tongue, ate the fly, and started laughing hysterically. Soon the other frog joined in the laughter. Later in the day, the other frog ate a fly and the two frogs burst out in laughter. As time went on, the frogs enjoyed the flies so much that the sight of a fly would cause them to double up with pleasure (if it s possible for frogs to double up!). But of course, the most pleasure came when the fly was actually eaten. A third frog hopped up to the first two and asked what was so funny. The first frog answered "Time." "Huh?" asked the third frog. The second frog explained: "Time s fun when you re having flies." Q What do you call a bug that jumps over cups? A A Glass-Hopper Time on the Park Bench Source: A Scout is sitting in a bench in the park reading the newspaper. Getting tired, he lies down for a nap. A few minutes latter a Scout comes by, wakes him and asks for the time. The sleeping scouts says its 6:45. The Scout goes back to sleep. Repeat this process three times, with it being thirty minutes latter each time (7:15, 7:45, 8:15). The Scout then takes out a marker and writes on the paper, "I don t have the Time!", places it over his head and goes back to sleep. The final Scout walks up; reads the message, wakes the sleeping scout up and says: "Hey, it s a quarter to nine! This Land Is Your Land CHORUS This land in your land, this land is my land, From California, to the New York Island, From the redwood forests to the Gulf Stream waters, As I was walking, that ribbon of highway, I saw above me that endless skyway, I saw below me that Golden Valley, CHORUS I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps, To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts, And all around me a voice was sounding, CHORUS I followed your low hills and I followed your cliff rims, Your marble canyons and sunny bright waters, This voice came calling, as the fog was lifting,

6 CHORUS As the sun was shining and I was strolling, Through the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling, I could feel inside me and see all 'round me Q What do you get when you cross an insect with a rabbit? A Bugs Bunny Silly Symphony Source: The purpose of this game is to discover the beautiful sounds that can be created by the natural objects in our environment. Instructions: 1. Each player is given minutes to find objects in nature that make a noise when banged together, or blown on, or rubbed together. 2. Players bring back their "instruments" and a conductor is chosen, who organizes the group into a semicircular orchestra. 3. Each musician is allowed to "tune" his instrument, so the rest of the group can hear the different sounds. 4. If a player can play more than one instrument at the same time, he is welcome to do so. 5. The conductor can then choose a familiar tune with an easy rhythm, and lead his orchestra in song. 6. Let the players make requests for songs they would like to play; give musicians the opportunity to work on "solos" that they can perform for everyone. Frog at the Bank Source: Thanks to the Giant Panda, Tony Quon A frog walks/hops into a bank, and asks to see someone about applying for a loan. "Oh, Mr. Paddywack will be glad to help you," says the teller, looking down at the frog rather dubiously. "Just have a seat at that desk over there, and he ll be right with you." So the frog sits down, and presently, the loan officer comes over. "Good day, sir, how may I help you?" he says, raising an eyebrow. "I need a loan," says the frog, "I want to do some renovations on my lily pad." "Well..." says the loan officer, "we are not in the practice of approving loans for amphibians..." he said condescendingly, looking over the rims of his horn-rimmed glasses. "But why not?" exclaims the frog, "I ve got an excellent credit record! I ve never been late on my visa payment!" The loan officer sighs. "Sir, I m afraid we would need some type of collateral, and I m-" "But I ve got it!" exclaims the frog. "I ve got an extensive collection of hummels I can use as collateral-"

7 "I m sorry," cuts in the loan officer, "but I don t think we ll be able to help you," he begins, but just then his supervisor comes up behind the desk. "What seems to be the problem?" he says to the loan officer. "Uh, um, Sir, this fro- um, gentleman, wants to obtain a loan," says the loan officer, "but I ve been trying to tell him that we can t-" "I ve got a hummel as collateral!" the frog breaks in. "What in the world is a hummel???" says the loan officer condescendingly. The supervisor looks exasperated. "It s a nick-nack, Paddywack! Give the frog a loan!" Q What kind of insect says zzzzub? A A bee flying backwards Pack Graduation Painted Ceremony Props: paint (orange, yellow, blue, green, red), paint brush Personnel: all boys in pack, cub master, asst cub master. (Note: if you wish you can paint the stripes, one on each cheek, that fits the boy s rank before the meeting begins-- orange- tiger; yellow- wolf; blue- bear; green- 1 st yr Webelos; red- 2 nd yr Webelos) Cubmaster: I would like all our braves of the tribe make a large circle around this fire, with each rank of warrior together (boys get in circle, tigers, wolves, bears, 1 st yr Webelos) This is a great day for our tribe. Because of your hard work and sincere effort, you have all grown in your knowledge of scouting skills and your spirit of worth. (Goes to Tigers) Tigers, you have spent many months searching, discovering, and sharing. You have had many adventures that you shared with your families and your den. You have earned the right to move ahead and be called Wolves. I give you the sign of the Wolf (paints yellow stripe on each cheek) (Goes to Wolves) Wolves, you too have spent much time learning the skills of the Wolfcitizenship, family skills, healthy habits, and duty to God. You have earned the right to move ahead and be called Bears. I give you the sign of the Bear (paints blue stripe on each cheek) (Goes to Bears) Bears, you have been very busy doing many activities to develop your duties to God, country, family, and self. You have also explored many other areas of learning, receiving arrow points as recognition. You have earned the right to move ahead and be called 1 st Year Webelos Scouts. I give you the sign of the Webelos Scout (paints a green stripe on each cheek) (Goes to 1 st year Webelos) Webelos, you are half way through your time as a Webelos Scout. You have earned your badge of rank, and have worked on many skills to help you as you approach Boy Scouting. I give you the second sign of the Webelos den, that of a red stripe. With the green and red stripes on your faces, you are soon approaching the time for you to leave our pack and join the tribe of the Boy Scouts. Enjoy your time with

8 the braves of our pack, learn all you can, and be strong Webelos braves as you continue your journey. (If you don t want to use paint, you could also have headdresses, with the correct colors of feathers added to their band) Prayer For Our Parks Closing May our land be blessed and protected.
