22 Winslow AKA: Rialto The theatre opened in about 1927 and seats about 700. It presented movies along with live stage acts. The Nace/Rickards chain owned it. It had a Meisel & Sullivan pipe organ, which was still occasionally used until 1950s. There was a major fire in the theatre about 1955 and theatre underwent major remodeling and operated sporadically until about the mid-1980s. It sat boarded up with its marquee removed until about two years ago when Allen Afeldt who owns the La Posada historic hotel in Winslow bought it and reopened it. 33 listings Presently showing films and plans to eventually add live music performances and community activities. Strand 206 W Washington seats Nace Arizona Paramount from a post at The Strand was located at 106 West Washington Street. It specialized in cowboy movies during the 40's and early 50's. After that it continued to run 'B' movies. It had a slightly Art Deco design above the marquee. Inside, there was a strange seating arrangement, a one story theater with the balcony on the same floor. You would walk in down the middle to the floor seats. About one third of the way in, there were steps on both sides that took you to a raised area. Mothers would never let their girls go to the Strand; the only 'proper' theaters were the Fox, Vista, Paramount (Orpheum) and Palms.
