3 Artistic project Presentation You are here... elsewhere is a poetic installation, a monumental work of art based on interactive maps that caters to children and adults. With the play of lights, the video projections, the pictograms and the geographical coordinates, the human mapping turns into a diverting interactive playground. In only a few steps, the journey takes you from your current position to the (whole) city, the world, the stars! You are here... elsewhere is an interactive and participative installation at the crossroads of different video-graphic languages, such as documentaries, animation drawing, video games, interaction, etc. It is a hybrid form giving the viewer a look at public space as an interactive space. The creation of You are here...elsewhere is based on a participative process, an artistic and territorial immersion conducted with the residents. Before the installation, workshops are organized with the residents. It gives the opportunity to place the public in the heart of the creation. Their voices, stories, graphic and pictogram works are incorporated into the installation to create an intimate and participative piece of art. You are here... elsewhere deals with the relation to the territory through vertical and horizontal projection spaces. During the exhibition, the public is invited to walk on different interactive maps, drawn on the ground, and to explore them. They are faced with screens that react to their movements in real time. Immersed in a sound scape, the walkers-players create surprising animations together: paintings, icons, testimonials and maps. Little by little, we find out different ways to approach the area, the light... and to play with them. 3

4 Biography of Matthieu Tercieux Matthieu Tercieux became interested in experimental video in art school. At the same time, he practiced VJing in different electronic events and created a lot of interactive videos used for scenography. He worked for theater, dance and music, with several artistic collaborations. Since 2011 he has developed the interactive installation called «You are here... elsewhere». Note of intent We seek to develop a form of interactive work at the crossroads of different videographic languages, such as documentaries, animation drawing, video games, interaction, etc. A hybrid form giving the viewer a look again the public space as an interactive space. We propose to compare the uses and customs of the inhabitants of a neighbourhood, their relationship to the land, to light, but also to share the feeling of both escape and the introspective dimension of this trip «between here and elsewhere». /// Matthieu Tercieux 4

6 Workshops description Video about workshops (french) Research and development You are here.. and elsewhere is based on a participatory creative process, work of artistic infusion and territorial conducted with residents. We offer a reappropriation of the city through its representation and we encourage participants to question and divert their multimedia consumer habits to creative practices, most critical. Perceived territory, lived territory memorial mapping, use of the city are special areas of work with the public as part of this residence. This stage of residence and workshops can locate people in the heart of the work: their voices, stories, graphics and pictograms achievements will be integrated with video installation projected pictures. the neighborhood and its inhabitants are so central to the event, returning to the territory all its uniqueness and attractiveness. The workshops are aimed at a wide variety of audiences: youth, adults, older people, more or less remote public media and cultural practices, curious amateurs, no discrimination except that of belonging to a neighborhood. 3 types of workshops will be realized in the residence of artists. A fun workshop for creating animated icons; capation a working sound and video on the theme of the city and the relationship one has with its territory; and finally a work of creating maps. The performance starts with a series of workshops organized with the residents. We ask them to tell us stories about their city, their neighborhood, what the words here and elsewhere mean for them. They are allowed to draw or to create graphic works. All of what they create is used for the installation. Their words / stories are a part of the sound atmosphere and their drawings / graphic works are shown on the wall and the ground. We adapt workshops according to the ages: 5-8 years old: drawing cars, spaceships, characters 9-99 years old: drawings the map of the city, buildings, writing workshops, characters, green screen for shorts dance or theatre samples. Planning: 14 days days of workshops -3 days to include the elements in the program -1 day for technical before the show. Our objective : - Link between participants from different neighborhoods through urban tracking walks. - Initiate public on the sidelines of multimedia tools for the creation of digital. - Integrate contained in the final device. - Addressing the territory from different cultural references. 6

7 Technical Rider This technical rider is adaptable during the prototyping Lab /// Each installation must be adapted to the dimensions of archtecture and urban space. Observe the following informations. You Are Here and Elsewhere (Veia) is an interactive installation. It consists of 2 same size videoprojection between 6m to 30 m maximum. Both projections are joint to the wall & floor. One projection is on the wall and the other one is on the floor projected from a balcony, a window or a roof... The projector for the floor is associated with an analytical system consists of an IR camera and a assymetrical light projector with IR filters. The sound systeme is composed with 4 speechers and 2 subwoofer for the sound spatialization. //// Projection surfaces The frontal projection surface can be either a builduing or a screen. It has to be the most flat as possible and with homogeneous colors. Projection surface on the floor has to be as flat as possible, without pavement, wall or low wall, barrier or gate... A white or grey carpet shall be installed if the floor projection surface isn t enough pale. 7

8 ////Tower/ scaffolding The scaffolding, Layher type, will have to be at least at 13 meters (25m ideally) from the frontal projection surface.
