Since Demosthenes was unable to persuade the generals and the soldiers, the army remained inactive. Finally the soldiers themselves decided to fortify the place. When the Lacedaemonians heard of these events, they were unable to come immediately on account of a festival which they were celebrating. Meanwhile the Athenians, having completed their work, left Demosthenes there with five ships and took most of the fleet away towards Sicily. End of paper 7
