2 PHYSICAL EDUCATION

3 PURPOSE of PE: To enable students to demonstrate individually and with others the physical skills, practices, and values to enjoy a lifetime of active, healthy living

4 GOALS OF PE Goal 1: Acquire a range of motor skills to participate in a variety of physical activities. Goal 2: Understand and apply movement concepts, principles and strategies in a range of physical activities. Goal 3: Demonstrate safe practices during physical and daily activities with respect to themselves, others and the environment. Goal 4: Display positive personal and social behavior across different experiences. Goal 5: Acquire and maintain health-enhancing fitness through regular participation in physical activities. Goal 6: Enjoy and value the benefits of living a physically active and healthy life.

5 Physical Education (P4) PE Components Description Athletics Dance Games & Sports involves students primarily in running, jumping (distance & height) and throwing activities explore different body parts to lead movements in variations of direction, level, pathway, time and force in response to music sending (low/high net), receiving, travelling, propelling using hands, feet, long-handed implement Gymnastics NAPFA Test Outdoor Education Physical Health & Fitness body management and control through creative interpretation of movement and sequence (balancing, rotating, sequencing, mounting, dismounting, vaulting) a standardised assessment of overall physical fitness which includes sit ups (core strength & endurance), standing broad jump (lower body strength), sit and reach (flexibility), inclined pull up (upper body strength), shuttle run (speed & agility) and 1.6km run (cardiovascular endurance) new and unfamiliar locations, in diverse natural and urban environments, provide dynamic situations for pupils to learn to be safe and make good judgements in a wider range of activities sports safety, growth & fitness, harmful substances, oral care, food-borne diseases * Summative grade will focus on selected components

6 Physical Education (P5) PE Components Description Athletics Dance Games & Sports Gymnastics Outdoor Education Physical Health & Fitness involves students primarily in running, jumping (distance & height) and throwing activities provides opportunities for pupils to be involved in and enjoy different dances (folk & social) to promote harmony and respect for cultural differences development of games-related concepts through modified net-barrier, striking-fielding and territorial-invasion games body management and control through creative interpretation of movement and sequence (balancing, rotating, sequencing, mounting, dismounting, vaulting) engages students sense of adventure through exploration of both natural & urban environments, develop appropriate outdoor skills while cultivating an attitude of care & appreciation for the envt and thoughtful consideration of the risks & safety of self and others simple first aid, CPR & use of AED, sports safety, diet & exercise, health & skill related fitness, personal hygiene, eye infections, auditory care, transmissible diseases * Summative grade will focus on selected components

8 PE Lessons Be appropriately attired (PE T-shirt and shorts) - otherwise not allowed to participate Excused from PE if unwell (doctor s MC/ parent s letter) - teachers will usually give pupils the benefit of doubt Emphasis on safe play - remind pupils not to push their peers in mischief Management of Injury during PE lessons - attend to treat the injury (no application of cream, oil etc) - ambulance will be called in for serious injury - call to inform parent/ guardian QUALIFIED PE TEACHERS ARE FIRST-AID CERTIFIED
